There is a video review from TFL Truck when the Gladiator was at the 2018 LA Autoshow. At the 12 minute 23 second mark Mark Allen Head of Jeep Design said "there is a removable BT speaker. And the speaker runs when you're just using the speaker in the truck too"

That statement could be interpreted as it's only charging. My interpretation was it runs with stereo. I could be wrong. And I certainly never intend to throw out incorrect information. So if my interpretation is incorrect, my apologies.

Link to reference video:

Just tested this. The BT speaker does play with the truck stereo when in it's dock.. aka if you get the option you have added another speaker to the truck. @iammacey, your are 100% correct.

This is great news. Thank you for testing this and sharing it back.

Update on this issue, the noise can be heard by others at any speed over 10mph but it is really disruptive over 55. I can't make work calls at highway speed.

Dealer confirmed the issue and the tech said it sounds like the top is off when talking. They recreated it using their own phones. They have no fix. They said they would call Chrysler and ask for a fix. So far no follow up with me a week later.

Hi WNCJEEP,
We understand why this may be frustrating. We suggest having your dealer inspect this concern if you have not done so already. We are also available via private message if you would like any additional assistance during that process.

I took the Gladiator into local dealer (Fields Jeep in Asheville, NC) on June 21, 2019. At first they said there was no issue and it was just my phone. I went over there and took the tech out on the interstate, paired his phone and called another tech, and they confirmed the issue at highway speeds (windows up, radio off and A/C off). The other tech described it as sounding like the top was off and the "wind noise" made it very hard to hear us. The tech indicated they would contact Chrysler and get back to me.

Having no response, I called this morning and received a call back this afternoon and was transferred to a manager. Manager reported that Chrysler told them to test it on another Gladiator. They had one on the lot, did the same test and they reported similar issue, which they indicated may be "normalized" function. I asked them to clarify and the short of it is, they are NOT treating it an issue/defect on my unit but a normal function and not going to repair/replace anything until Chrysler identifies it as problem and has a solution. I explained that I had a JK with the same phone and could easily talk to people at interstate speeds but with this Gladiator I cannot . . . simply put it is not normalized jeep noise as it is louder than the JK bluetooth and the Gladiator is the smoothest driving quietest jeep on the highway I have ever driven. The manager reported that Chrysler is not hearing other complaints and not yet identifying this as an issue.

I hope others report this issue so it gets escalated at Chrysler and they figure out some fix. As it is right now, I am unable to use handsfree at interstate speeds for work calls, just too hard for other party to hear me, even though it is quiet and crystal clear on my end. If i take phone off bluetooth, they can hear me just fine, but defeats purpose of safe hands free driving.

I appreciate you following up on the issue. I rarely make calls using the vehicles mic/speakers but I will try this on the Gladiator this weekend and will report back.

Thanks for keeping us updated on this. Looking at a JT as my daily driver and I too need to be able to make work calls at highway speeds.

One solution until FCA fixes this issue is to look at getting a BlueParrott headet. I have the B350-XT that I use for work calls in my office and I suspect it will work great to cancel out the wind noise. I have tested it outside in very windy conditions and there's been zero reports of wind noise on the other end.

Looking to test drive a JT this coming weekend so I will try to test both the in car BT and my headset.

Quick update: Local Dealer is taking this seriously . . . service Manager called me back today and indicated that they put a "level 3 master tech" on it and have been in contact with what they refer to as "star case" which is the communication tool with Chrysler service. They tested the issue on 3 different Gladiators and confirmed the issue on all three. Interestingly, they said the noise was not present when using Apple Car Play. However, I use Android Auto and it is still present. They were able to get the Chrysler "Star Case" guys on the phone when they were in a Gladiator at Highway speed and had them make a recording of the call and Chrysler "confirmed" the noise issue. The manger said it has now been referred by Star Case to "engineering". He has no idea how long it will take, what priority it will have, but it sounds like local dealer went above and beyond - I have to give credit and respect to the local Fields Jeep Dealer in Asheville. Now it's a wait and see what Chrysler comes up with.

I assumed more people were not complaining because most owners have iPhones and were using a Apple Car Play (having presumably some noise cancellation software) so they weren't getting complaints. If you are getting it with Car Play too, I would think this would get more complaints and attention by FCA.

An update on IPhone noise issue. Just come from the dealer. Where the tech tried it with bluetooth, and then with Apple Car Play. No change, still distorted on the receivers end, and clear as a bell on our end. So the tech was able to get the Chrysler "Star Case" guys on the phone, according to them my IPhone 8 plus Software version 12.3.2, is not compatible with this version of UConnect. And no updates at the moment. Is anyone else, having the same trouble with an IPhone.

Is that accurate? Are you beta testing? Just checked my phone (Xs) says 12.3.1 and that my software is up to date.
