Your point; applied to a different condition, for example an" ingrown toenail " would be amputate the toe. BTW... I know of nothing that is assembly line built that is 100% perfect; therefore, manufacturers provide a warranty to address any non-perfect product.

You've done auto transmission repair? Have a lot of experience in that field?
I have - like I've said before, a human hair getting into the shuttles and spools and valves in that valve body and things can get funky. It doesn't take much....... maybe some flashing from the casting process or thread making process, or milling or whatever. Perhaps the sand wasn't 110% cleaned out.
It shouldn't happen, but then again - out of the hundreds of thousands produced, to say no one will ever see that "one" is illogical.

Heck, there are still things about the motion of ordinary objects that are bizarre and complex to understand.

Going back to the original post about how smooth the replacement transmission is, I feel like my current 2022 Mojave is one of the smoothest shifting automatics I’ve ever had other than maybe the CVT in my WRX.

Disagree with that .. FCA Jeep would not sell the massive numbers for decades with that point; granted it's your belief .. learn these stats as I have worked over 40 yrs in the automotive industry: an unhappy consumer will tell 11 .. a happy will tell 3 so when you read forums.

We've had this same basic transmission in 3 Jeeps now, gotta agree. Smooth as silk. Sometimes the programmed shift points could be better but that's Jeep, not the transmission.

Sure they would because people love Jeep regardless, they’re unique, they’ve had issues with reliability for years but it hasn’t impacted sales, it’s FCAs saving grace.

My Jeep shifts weird, but only occasionally. I mentioned it twice at the dealer and was given the reply: "Wait until it breaks, then bring it in. These transmissions shift when THEY want, not when you think they should."
I have 15k on it now, still shifts the same, maybe a little better, or I'm just getting used to it. Most of the time it seems fine.

Wanted to share my story as it's one I've seen and was able to get handled for myself.

I've got a 2021 gladiator overland, 3.6L, 8 speed auto, modified 2" MOPAR lift and 35's.

Around 12,000 miles I started having a lot of transmission quirks. Very heavy slams into reverse from park, and when cruising my neighborhood at idle and around 25MPH it would kind of surge and slam from 3rd to 4th gear. Sometimes it would bounce back and fourth between 3rd and 4th like it couldn't choose which gear it should be in. That quirk got worse over time and eventually would surge, slam, then fall out of gear entirely and force the vehicle into limp mode (stuck in 1st). When that happened I'd get a code that was "incorrect 3rd gear ratio." Over time all of my shiftpoints got a little rough but 3rd to 4th was definitely the worst.

Took it in to the dealer to get looked at. First attempt they replaced the valve body under warranty. That service did mute the problem a bit, probably just the fresh fluid and clean channels in the valve body, but over a few weeks the problem came back just as bad and I had it go into limp mode about 3 times in a 4 day period so I took it back.

FCA was great. Tech opened it up and found metal in the pan and they quickly approved a new trans and cooler to make sure no metal was left behind. Took 37 days but they kept me in a rental wrangler the whole time.

Have had it back for a day now and holy cow, it's a completely different vehicle. I bought it new and the transmission was never this smooth. It drives and shifts more like a Mercedes now and for the first time I actually really love driving this vehicle.

So! If you have a similar issue developing and are under warranty, don't drag your feet, get it in. It seems to be a fairly common issue despite not having a TSB out

This is word for word an exact description of what I’m going through for the last 3-4 months! I’ve tried so many times to describe it to people including the dealership. Their intake people aren’t mechanics so I had to describe it and then hope they conveyed it to the mechanic properly, and hope the mechanic drove it enough to see it happen. They did whatever process is used to calibrate new transmissions and that did not help but since they could t really induce it they way I saw it nearly every day, they sent me on my way.
A month later it’s worse than ever, especially on the slow exit from my neighborhood to the light down the street where it often codes for that 3rd gear issue, jumps back and forth through 3rd and 4th until going into limp
Mode. And yes, all of this preceded by that slam into reverse that’s so hard I cringe. It will chirp the wheels on the garage floor.
I’ve screen capped your post to take it to the dealership tomorrow.

In the dealership, we are not allowed to swap out an eight speed transmission without corporate approval. Corporate approval requires documentation of the issue and an attempt to fix the problem by changing the valve body. Once this is done, if (Actually, when) the problem is still present, we are allowed to replace the transmission. The eight speed transmission is not super complicated, but corporate policy doesn't allow us (I am a dealership technician) to rebuild them. It is part of a continuous drift into swapping parts instead of repairing them.

Thank you for your insight. As a retired ASE tech, it is refreshing to hear current dealership policies.

I'm just "semi-retired". I still work part time, just keeps me active and I get to see what nonsense Stellantis is up to now. I couldn't handle full retirement, I lasted three months before boredom really got to me.

LOL - no time for me to be bored. I retired a few years ago and am more busy than I ever was in the past.
I delivered 3 restored alternators to two different customers, 3 restored wiper motors to another customer, some other parts I had re-plated for AMC cars and brought back 2 boxes of things to restore in my shop. That's what I get for going to a car show/swap meet.
I have almost no time to work on my own cars any more. But my wife was happy, I brought back a pocket full of $100 bills for my work HA - I'll not see much of it.
