I had an idea after stumbling upon a YT video featuring the Bronco's 7-speed MT...

I don't have any real complaints about the Aisin D478 itself, though we all know the ongoing clutch woes. That said, the MT88 seems like a sweet transmission. The ratios are phenomenal compared to the D478. The Crawler gear would be handy AF. Top overdrive would be much better suited for a deep geared gladiator. Overall, it just looks to be a better transmission. No idea how the clutch would hold up but anything has to be better than the factory Jeep clutch.

Just a random thought experiment. I'd love to know some dimensions on it and if it'd be possible to adapt both from a mechanical and electrical standpoint. Looks like they can be had for about $4k (obviously this excludes the cost to adapt), so not too bad when you consider a new clutch + install to get the D478 up to reasonable usability is going to be over $2k itself.

Somebody with deeper pockets than me, get to solving this for us!

Interesting concept and a crawler gear would be cool. Not sure the juice is worth the squeeze. I have $2,000 in my Centerforce clutch, and another $2,000 in 5.13 axle gears ⚙ for 37” tires. So I’m all in at $4k with no one off /custom Fab stuff. If I want low gear, I drop into 4lo and have a 96.65:1 crawl ratio in first. If it had the MT88 crawler it would be a ridiculousy low 135.19:1 in 4lo with the 4:1 Rocktrack transfer case.
