I just noticed the behavior, and wanted to post this here to see if anyone is seeing the same thing. If I take my VIN a look it up on Jeep's website to pull the build sheet, it is now returning a message that says:

"Unable to fetch required information. Please contact System Administrator"

As of yesterday I was able to pull this information, but now I get nothing. I've tried a few different VINs too, and so far they're all giving me the same result.

Does anyone else see this behavior if you plug your VIN into https://www.jeep.com/webselfservice/BuildSheetServlet?vin=

It's most likely simply a web glitch, the message "contact system administrator" should tell you something - they are having technical problems.
Why would anyone think they are going away when it clearly states there's a problem and contact admin?
If you try to get to a web site and get a 401 do you think, gee, that company must be out of business?
Naw - sometimes servers and systems have problems.
Who knows, could be server resource issues, server upgrade went awry, software glitch, database issues, could be any number of things. The message alone tells me it's a problem, not a plan to take away the resource.

I wish it returned a 401 - although in this case I think a 500 would be appropriate, as this isn't a password protected resource. No, instead they return 200 OK, even for invalid VINs, but I digress.

As to why I'd question if they'd be going away...

Not wholesale, but perhaps after a time, etc. Again, this "API" - though calling it such is a stretch - is rather crude, and clearly not written by technically savvy people, so placing any credence in the text of a PDF that otherwise is returned in a 200 response is already kind of suspect.

Either way, this does make things more problematic, as the build sheet is the only way I know of to validate non-North American Gladiator VINs. Hopefully this is just a transient error.

Thanks for validating! Part of me was worried I'd hit this endpoint too many times, and this was their way of blocking my IP address :CWL:

It works for me and I even verified that the last line of the build sheet says....."INCREDIBLY PAINFUL SHIPPING/DELIVERY TIME"

Works fine for me. Likely someone tripped over the cord in the data center.
