I think for the money you are looking at spending on a used rig that I would get a new one. Just got quoted on a nice optioned 22 Rubicon diesel for $55,600 on a factory order.

I have looked at a few threads but it's all over the place.

Negatives are "37+ go diesel otherwise stick with a gasser, DEF is a pain, it has overheating problems, bottoms out, etc."

Positives seem to say that it feels the best to drive because the JT is too heavy for the 3.6, hauls better (not more, but easier), MPG's are higher, torque, and so on.

While I understand those facts and opinions, it still leaves me on the fence. I know I don't need the diesel, but if the powerplant makes the JT feel more comfortable and compliment with daily driving over the 3.6, then perhaps it would be worth it.
The 3.6 is competitive in the mid-size truck market.

So people who say it isn't powerful enough must be comparing this to non mid-size trucks.

If I wanted a diesel mid-size truck, I'd go Colorado ZR2 Duramax all day long.

Oh also the diesel gives you less towing and less payload, where as the Colorado isn't negatively impacted.

Just purchased our new Gladiator, and paid MSRP for a unit on the lot that was equipped close to what I would have ordered.
Other Jeep dealers in our area are asking/getting over MSRP.

Local Ford dealer is asking….and presumably getting +10% over MSRP on new Rangers

Depends on your area.

Rangers are $1000-4000 off MSRP here in Metro Atlanta, and you can join the Mustang Owners Club for x-plan pricing (*after 60 days membership).

Thanks for all the help, everyone. Got a quote and should be ordering in the next few days.

Only 1 last question...

Diesel or gas? (I know, I know)

This will be my daily. I doubt I'll go more than 35's for the foreseeable future, but I feel it's a better everyday feeling.

I will not be doing as much wheeling in coastal GA when I initially get there, but I'm sure I will as much as I can. Might tow a 4k pound travel trailer a dozen times a year.

Would the diesel be worth it?
Here’s a question I have asked before. Would you ever ”upgrade” to the gas V6? I know I wouldn’t. Drive one and it will be an easy answer. There’s zero comparison. Although the V6 is a great motor for a small car or minivan, they are grossly underpowered vs the diesel.

Thanks for everyone's honest opinion and help!

I officially have placed a reservation! Curve ball ahead...

I placed an order for a Mojave! I still have time if I want to revert back to a Rubicon, but I think it makes more sense. Less rock crawling, more woods trail riding, with some beach driving as my daily.

Besides, the Rubicon's strengths between the two are it's 4:1 T-case, front locker, and remote sway bar disconnect, correct?

However, on the coast of GA, I won't find myself in too many situations where I'll need that extra crawl ratio the 4:1 will give me. ADDITIONALLY, the Mojave still has a better crawl ratio than the Tacoma TRD Pro, or the Ford Ranger Tremor. So I'd venture to say it's more than plenty for what I'd ever use it for (and most of us for that matter).

The front locker is a nice upgrade that I will wish I had, but honestly I don't see myself in situations that would really need it anytime soon. When this thing gets a bit older and I'm more casual about hitting harder trails, I'll add one.

Lastly, the sway bar disconnect is cool, but not necessary. In all of my other older Jeep's I just hopped out and disconnected them manually before I went on my way. I have zero issues doing the same for this.

All in all, I think it will be the best for me in the end.

Sting Gray with the premium soft top and the cool looking cloth Interior for the beach weather that won't burn me for when it's the hot "devil went down to Georgia" kinda days.

If you believe I should stick with Rubicon, shout some knowledge at me!

Rubicon owners will try and sway your decision, just look at the threads of Mohave vs Rubicon. But, if your reasons to not buy the Rubicon are listed above, why spend the money for a Mohave instead of saving money with the purchase of a Sport?

As I would option both of them, the sport does come in roughly $5,000 less. But I wouldn't have any locker, I would miss out on the suspension, the interior is much nicer (even in cloth), plus a few features are missing/not available with the sport. I would just want to upgrade things immediately, and that would negate the cost almost instantly.
