The stock silver FM antennae wasn’t looking right on my Punk’n orange metallic/black trim Gladiator. Tried a couple different black “shortie” antennas- but was losing station range. Thought about painting it but thought of a better idea: Black Heat Shrink and a bolt cover to the rescue.

I bought one from Antennamastrus on Amazon, it is a couple inches short than OEM but all black and nice quality, haven't noticed and change in reception.

Do you have a picture and a link? I tried the stubby and got poor reception so went back to the OEM.

How is the reception after this? I always thought coverings (especially that cap) would affect reception. Neat mod though!:like:

No issues with reception. I tried the 8” and 13” “stubby” antennas and would drop stations on both that I could get clearly with the silver OEM factory. Back in business now.

As long as they are not made from a material that interferes with radio waves, antenna coverings have no effect on reception.

The heat shrink tubing is a great idea. I initially clipped mine a few inches shorter and tried the high heat spray paint, but I saw chips within days. It’s always tough to paint something that rolls in even layers. Then I went with the Rydonair stubby and even though I’m kinda out in the sticks, I had no reception loss. This is in sharp contrast to the AntennaX stubby on my JK which gets awful reception.

Looks better than silver stock, but I wish there was a way to get rid of the antenna altogher. Who listens to AM/FM radio anymore? Maybe get ride of the antenna and put a Off Road Rated badge on the passenger side to match the drivers?

A lot of people still listen to the radio. I put one of these on. It looks much better, but may not work as well in areas where the signal is weak.
