Sooooo I’m just going to leave this here. Give me your thoughts. 60k miles. Changed my oil on my differential and this was all attached to the magnetic drain plug. I just got it back from a dealership because I only bought it a couple weeks ago and it was making some squeaking sounds so I made them aware of it. They kept my truck for two weeks and finally called me back and said the grinding/squeaking sound that I heard was normal. I asked them to pull the cover off and at least just inspect it to make sure it was normal and they said they would not do that for me unless I paid for it. So I went and picked my truck up and the next day. I took it in my garage and that’s what I found. Maybe now they’ll fix it.

I voted drive it as I ran my Ram with similar damage for thousands of miles before I finally had the limited slip replaced with a trutrac. Now if it's under warranty I'd push for them to fix it, but you'll just get another weak factory limited slip in it's place.

Since you don't know exactly where that came from or where other pieces may still be inside, you risk blowing out the pinion bearings, carrier bearings, or a piece getting tossed up with the lube, staying on the face of a gear and locking it up. I had bearing parts get tangled up in a transmission gear and lock the thing up solid - couldn't move it an inch.
You may go weeks or months, but if a piece like one of those smaller ones gets in the wrong place, it may lock it up.

Your truck, your call, your risk. Mine would get trailered to the dealer and they'd get handed those pieces.

PS - grinding and squeaking is not normal - you need a new dealership. These should be quiet as a mouse. Never in my life had a limited slip that made any noises, but I've worked on some where the pinion bearing blew out for no reason and locked up so hard the car slid to a stop. I found the last person to work on it totally screwed up the limited slip assembly when I dug deep into it.

Well, I'd be losing my mind on them.... But the silver lining is that you can push for a replacement and then get them to install a true track. They'll make you pay for the true trac but the install will save you a lot.

A Jeep Dealership. Drove 3 hours to the dealership. I've already been back and forth from there like 3 times already. Literally 18 hours of driving. And yes it was a CPO.

I like the Trutrac replacement idea, but perhaps talk to them about having it towed to them on their dime , then offer to have it done local and send them the bill perhaps? You get the trutrac and a better install

In theory any Jeep dealership should be able to honor the CPO warranty. Might be worth an effort to talk to maybe a dealership that is more local? I get that any new dealership will kind of be sour or less than enthusiastic about it, but not all of they are dicks if you are just upfront about it.

Had a local Ford dealership do the work on my wife's cherokee and the dealership we bought it from paid for it. They sold her a vehicle that couldn't pass PA inspection. The excuse? "Well our tech passed it for NY's inspection"

Listen, Jerk. The lower A-arm bushing it MISSING. Don't buy shit from Buffalo Jeep dealerships

For sure, I did call and talk to a manager about it. Took me all day just to reach someone, and I had to be a Karen about it. But they finally were like... Yes, absolutely, we stand behind our customers, and we are going to make this right by you and get the diff fixed. But that was also after I threatened to report them to the Better Business Bureau and a lawyer. So long story short, I'm dropping the truck off tomorrow for the third time... to get fixed. This time, I'm taking a paint marker and marking all the bolts under the truck.. especially the axle bolts, because IF they do replace or repair the diff, they should have to remove the axles to get the diff out. So I want to see if they actually fix what they say they are going to. I have trust issues with dealerships.

Dude.... I'm from PA so I totally get that lol. Which, now I live in Tennessee, and I drove to Georgia to buy this one. This is the second time I've bought a vehicle from Georgia and got screwed over.
People just don't take pride anymore, it seems.

**UPDATE** Took it back to the dealership and they agreed to fix it for me. These are the two pictures that they sent me and said that they are ordering a replacement slip differential. I did ask them if I could switch to the truetrac.. but they said that they only replace broken parts with factory parts. The limited slip differential is on backorder. They’re also ordering two new rear axles. What do y’all think about these two pictures?
