After try some different mods this is the one I ended up with. Sounds beefy, deep and ..
if you Can cut and weld it’s free.
if you use clamps about $15
if you have a shop do it, less than $100

i first cut off my exhaust behind the first muffler (the long one after the cat, it’s straight through) added a down turn and tried it. Basically a home version of the rock crawler. Sounded cool if you like really loud exhaust, zero drone. Too loud with a tinny tinge to the sound for me.

Video clip after it the black muffler was added with a proper turn down. The tip reaches just bad the cab/bed join.
Startup, accelerate with window down to 49, with window up to 35, casual normal to 25 and window down to 25 while I talk

I cut off the down turn pipe and welded on the black resonator thingy at the very back of the system. So it goes , cat, long muffler and black muffler. Looks like a stock set up, sorta.

PRESTO! It’s so7nds frigging awesome, on start up it is low a throaty. drive it easy and pretty quiet. Jump on it and it sounds, good. Louder than stuck for sure but not that CoffeCanbexhsust sound I first had. I love it. Try it your self before buying this $1100 plus systems. My muffler guy, a Jeep guy, said the Jeeps first is straight through, why install a $300 Magna Flow version of the same thing,

Video clip after the black muffler was added with a proper turn down. The tip reaches just past the cab/bed join.
Startup, accelerate with window down to 40, with window up to 35, casual normal to 25 and window down to 25 while I talk. In my opinion you can hear the engine for shifting and etc. it sounds healthy but is not loud. I will try to get one in a tunnel at some point.

I've always thought Jeeps, and most small engines, sound terrible with exhaust mods. Most of them sound like farts in a can. You didn't rev it there but I suspect it doesn't sound that great. Back pressure is also a thing...

check the second one, Jack rabbit start, I just added. But that sound is not the finished product. It was stage one. As to back pressure, pretty much a fallacy or race cars wouldn’t have open pipes the headers; if it is, well take a look near your engine, It’s a catalytic converter. Plenty of back pressure and with that and a 360 turn in the pipe To boot! As to reving up the engine, while parked and placing the camera at the tailpipe, that does not reveal what people actually hear, Sound at idle from an elevated position near the vehicle and sound under “ load” while generating power are the true sounds.

Race cars aren't held to the same federal fuel standards and readings.

New link really makes my point...high winding *empty* fart in a can sound to me. Peoples opinions vary of course. Of course I come from the race car world....lots of really powerful and great sounding engines.

Agreed. Every time I hear/see an exhaust on a Wrangler I cringe. They never disappoint in how horrible they sound.

Again I said that is the stage one not the complete sound mod. That was why I continued to make changes. I will record new today from same positions. By the way the tinny sound came because I didn’t turn the pipe down enough and it was echoing around underneath the bed.

And as for modifying the exhaust, any modification will change the vehicle from the federally or state mandated standards.

Ok I shot some iPhone 11 video and pieces it together to give you an idea of what it sounds like. Listen with AirPods on it sounds pretty dang close to well, how it sounds.

Thanks for all your work on this. I had an issue with one of the links. I wish you had pics - what I'd like to understand is what mods to the factory exhaust you did.

Did you try it without the rear resonator? I'm not sure why that's there and I am interested in removing it and shortening the exhaust system maybe adding a downturn before the spare.

Again, it'd be great if I could see your modified system under the truck. Thanks!

[/QUOTE The first sounds in the original post war without the resonator and I had a kind of higher pitch Teni sound to it.

I took a picture and some video (see attached) . If you look under the jeep you will see three mufflers. Leave the first one near the front, as is. Cut off about 2” past the hanger (towards the rear about 1 foot south of the first muffler) remove remaining system. Cut resonator (Black muffler) off the removed portion leaving about 2” in front. Attach resonator to the exhaust left on the truck it is very sturdy as that first muffler. A straight through is on a hanger. The down turned resonator rear tip will be about where the bed starts, give or take. Note the hanger in the picture is not the resonator hanger (it’s on top of it) . Mine is welded so the 2” in front of the resonator didn’t need to hsppen. Just leave your self enough room (In front of the resonator) to use a clamp/join if you are not welding it!

I like to hear my motor, I shift by sound. That said, the whole neighborhood doesn’t need to hear it. Did I say I got a verified 1.2 mpg increase on the highway. In the on board screen and calculated
