The check gas cap light came on.
I checked the gas cap and tightened it until it clicked.
I did some research and it can take up to 3 days for the light to go away.
If they light stays on after that, then I have an evap leak somewhere in the system.

My question is, should I wait the 3 days or should I get it checked out sooner?
Is there anything else I should check out, or is this strictly an evap leak?

Thanks

Let it ride for 3 days…. I’m not sure why it would take this long to clear, butā€¦šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

It’s not uncommon for those errors with loose gas caps - I’ve seen it with many other vehicles. Perhaps you only need a new gas cap (seal, etc)??

You might know this already… Some folks might not know…..but I thought I’d mention it anyway.

When you’re filling up the tank and the knozzle goes CLICK and stops…
DO NOT …and I mean DO NOT put anymore gas in!!!!
Overfilling can cause gas to get into the EVAP canister (or charcoal canister) and damage it. These are not cheap to replace. My brother-n-law didn’t know about the ā€˜overfilling’. He learned the hard way by needing to replace his Evap canister in his Porsche. 😳

Any emissions related errors, immediately makes me think about the Evap. šŸ™„

Some sound advice right there. You shouldn’t rush to the dealership. Make sure the cap is on properly, give the vehicle emission CEL time to reset before taking it in for service.

Just like my old JK, that and fuel spills while getting close to full. My Gladiator just started doing that.

There is a check valve in the upper filler neck that fails causing this, had mine replaced under warranty. Worth a check, I think it's like a $200 part and wouldn't seem too difficult to replace, it's all under the bed.

My gas cap light wouldn’t clear with my cheapo scanner. I switched gas caps with my JK and that didn’t work either. So then I wondered is it gas cap, ESIM,or purge valve.
I didn’t feel like throwing $200 in parts at it so I went to an old Jeep mechanic who I trust that has his own shop and he got it to clear by rebooting ECM.
nothing has come back in 2 weeks. It had a single misfire as well that cleared.
I’m hoping alls well.
It’s at around 158,000 km right now.

My '04 wrangler use to throw that code about once a year. So, for about 4 years I bought a new gas cap. Was talking to another jeep guy who had the same problem, and he told me the O-ring on the cap wasn't sealing and to put a coat of grease on it. I did and it fixed my problem.
