I've noticed a diesel-like sound on my '22 Mojave. For me it is as I go up a hill that leads away from my home. I'm going around 30mph and the incline is about 4% (+100 ft over about 500 yards). Not awful, but noticeable each time. Just wish I was getting the mileage of a diesel to go along with the diesel-like engine knock of my gasser. ;)

this is part throttle acceleration pinging or knocking. My 2020 did this quite badly and ended up with a rough idle and later on ticking similar to the videos posted here. Dealer looked at it 3x and said all was normal so I traded it into them for a 2022 diesel. See if 91 octane or injector lube/octane booster helps. If I ran 91 octane and lucas oil injector cleaner and top end lube it would eliminate 99% of this horrible pinging the engine suffered.

I also had symptoms where full throttle for extended time in the sand or on the highway up steep hills it would throw a CEL soft code for multiple misfire. Once you slowed down and cut it back it would eventually self clear but I could regularly get it to this point. Multiple dealers found nothing wrong.

It also idled so rough you could see a wake in a water bottle in the console at idle in park since new.

Just dropped it off and so far based of the video I showed they suspect an exhaust leak. I'll keep my fellow tappers updated as I find out more.
So an exhaust leak can cause that piston slap noise???

Potentially, the verdict is still out on my specific case though. They got to look at it and the sound has disappeared so tomorrow they will look at it on cold start. Lots of things can make tricky sounds though. Had an accord that I was convinced the valve train was ticking but it was in fact the hydraulic timing belt tensioner on its way out.

Please update when they find out what it is, I will get that noise occasionally too. I told myself I wont worry about anything anymore and just drive it till it blows up and just keep oil change records? because it's under warranty and I can think of other things to worry about. I also have horrible gas mileage so maybe I have the same issue. Reguardless, I got an extended warranty so I'm done worrying about this jeep until the 100k mile mark.

I considered doing the same but last thing I want to do is get stranded on a trail somewhere because I let it go. Hopefully they'll give me something tomorrow.

I agree, but most of us dont wheel alone and i dont plan on ever rock crawling. Also, i think the noise would get a lot worse if it was a piston slap or rod knock, correct? Eventually, the dealer couldnt say its normal or ask what gas station you go to ?. Anyways, i would rather get a new engine at 50k to 100k miles then now so i can deal with it. Im the process of buying a beater car for better gas mileage for daily errands and preparing for when it blows up anyways ?. Even though is a 50k jeep, we are all obviously doing well in life somewhat to afford an expensive gas guzzling toy. Of course we expect a good running jeep with no issues, but i feel blessed even so because i have my health and dont have to worry about missles and bombs dropping on me. So tick or knock away till the dealer addresses the issue, i will still enjoy the ride with the doors and top off.......with ear plugs ?

Thanks for the info. Maybe someday I’ll follow your lead and get a diesel too. At least I’d know the knock is supposed to be there.

Odd, mine has had the "tick" since brand new, but only after it warms up, only at idle, and I can only hear it when the JT is inside the garage. I hope it's normal injector noise in my case.
Same here ... on start up in the garage I hear the tick and then gone once on the road ... hope the dealer takes care of @glassjawkid32 , to get it resolved quickly ..

Mine has had the louder tick at idle since I can remember. It is most noticeable in the garage or in the drive through line. Lately I have been experiencing what I thought was the throttle acceleration knocking and pinging. My question is, I hear the knocking/pinging during engine breaking also. Would there still be a tuning issue that would be present during engine breaking? Maybe I have an exhaust leak also. I have never achieved higher than 15 MPG. I just hit 4K for mileage.

My Mojave built 9/21 has developed the tick on the right side. Goes in 3/21/22 for teardown. Forgot to add it has 3100 miles.
Got Jeep back today with new rocker arms right hand side and camshaft.

My Willy's was built 3rd Quarter of 21 and I have the start up knock that goes away once it's up to temp. I also just noticed in 3rd gear it kinda hesitates or looses power for a split second between 1.5k - 2k rpm but not everytime. I only have 3K mile on it... I'm gonna have to keep an eye on this... First brand new vehicle I've ever owned.

When I got my Jeep serviced this week, they did a pcm update, which is supposed to fix this issue. There is a service bulletin.
