Wow, You have renewed my hope for a fix. Is there a TSB # for this? Looks like its whited out on your ticket. I have a clunk from 4th to 3rd and some other random things when first going into gear.

Yes, the TSB is what they tried in December and it really didn't help. Let me see if I can find the paperwork for that dealer visit and post it here. Not sure why they blanked it out when they printed this most recent statement. If I can't find it, I'll call them. They (Harper Jeep) have been great to deal with.

My transmission clunk saga finally ended this past week. After taking my Mojave to another dealer in late December a STAR case was created. They did the relearn procedure and asked me to drive another 500 miles so they could collect the data and see if it would change anything. So after 500 or so miles I brought it back in last week. The clunk was still there in the low gears on downshifting. Dealer confirmed with Stellantis and ultimately they put in a new trans and torque converter. I have driven it a 100 miles or so and the shifting is noticeably better. I still have a slight clunk between 4th and 3rd gears but no where near what it was before.

I’ll drive it for a while and see if things settle a little more. Just happy to have this behind me and that I get to enjoy the Jeep I purchased back in Oct 20 more.

That’s great! I replaced my “clunky” JLUR with a new JLURD as I noted earlier - got more than I paid for it and a discount on the replacement.

That said… the new one is usually butter smooth, as I would have expected. But every now and then it does aggressively down shift, but not in a worrisome way. Thus, I think it’s fair to expect a little roughness, but it shouldn’t shift load or chirp tires like this issue was doing to my previous 2020.

I have this condition since the beginning, report it to the dealership several times during maintenances and never got anything done, they said ''it was normal condition''.

Now at 63k miles I seems to be worse, I heard the clunk harder and more constantly.

Saw some recall in transmission but I think it only applies for the 2022 models

I started getting the "clunk" at about 20k miles. It only does it from 3rd to 2nd gear when slowly coming to a stop. And always when the speedometer hits about 7-6 mph. Once tranny is up to temp I've noticed it doesn't do it as often.

Does it still do it if you shift manually?

Max Tow for me too.. It does it. More noticeable in interstate stop and go traffic scenarios..

I sorta think Max tows are the worst with it.. 4.10 gearing and smaller tires. With 35's and a JScan tire size change mine has been much improved shifting.

So, Get bigger tires! ;-)

I'm running 33s with a Tazer and have been since about 1k miles. Clunking just started at 20k.

Slight? Yea, the shit has been clunking since I got it with 21 miles. Normal or not, all 3 of my 8speeds have done it. No malfunctions to date.

Sucks to listen to but it works well (not trying to diminish your concern)

A good time to chalk tires, put T-case in neutral check for slop in drive shafts, pinion, ect, ect. When a U-joint or bearings go's bad it fails rapidly. Not a good day if going fast. Mileage be damned some last almost "forever" but others not.

I'm reserved to just accepting it. My 2008 Suburban has been clunkinging into 2nd gear from 1st since about 110k. It has 185k now and the tranny is doing the same with no problems. I know it's a 4 speed compared to a 8 spd but still...

Okay, so I've been noting some things.

The "clunk" mainly happens when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. Sometimes from 4th to 3rd. It happens a lot when I'm coasting and rpms are low. The tranny downshifts from 3rd to 2nd at about 7-8 mph in this scenario. When I come to a rapid stop there is never a clunk when downshifting. It seems like the lower the rpms when diwnshidting the more likely it is to clunk. I sometimes also notice a clunk when coasting at lower speeds and then give it a little gas without it switching gears, like going through a round-a-bout.
