My clunk into 4th gear has largely disappeared @ 30,000 miles. There is still the occasional loud clunk out of park and a loud flutter when the transmission cant quite make up its mind. At this point It is much more drivable than it was and dont notice any issues as often as before. Hope it irons itself out more with time. Also I have had the computer updated twice by the dealer with new code which I'm sure has helped out.

I guess thats one way to fix it, did you get another jt or something else
Loved the JT wish I didn’t have to lemon it but it had a handful of issues and was in and out of the dealer monthly. For now I’m driving my TJ until I decide on what to get next, leaning towards a JLRU.

Hi all,

I have a 2020 JLUR (not JT) with the 3.6 auto and I have almost exactly this same issue. Slowing down, usually from 3rd to 2nd. More prominent downhill and before the Jeep has warmed up.

Ive had it in twice with a “well sometimes it has to get worse..” response. New dealer next week.

It’s enough to shift load in the back or even chirp tires if it’s a bit wet out and I shift to N to stop in the snow. It seems a bit dangerous.

Any luck? I’m starting to wish I had gotten the diesel or a manual.

Thanks.

I just have been ignoring it, i had a jlu before with a manual and it did it too. Some times its bad but other times i go a few weeks without noticing it.

Thanks. That's what I've been trying to do, but then every now and then it chirps or shifts load and I'm reminded that it should do that. I'll take it in in a week or so and see what comes of it. I don't have overly high hopes.

With the used values these days, I'm tempted to trade it in for a 2.0 or a diesel since it seems like less hassle than trying to get the thing fixed based on what I've read. They look to be less impacted from what I can tell (I realize the JT crowd does't have that option yet AFAIK).

UGH yes same here 2021 high altitude it’s very annoying took it into the dealership and they told me it’s normal but it didn’t start to do it until I got more miles on it. So is this normal?

I took my JL to three dealerships, for four total visits. All nothing, but it downshifts hard enough to shift load so I have to put it into N to stop. Worst when cold and going downhill. Easily reproduced.

Contacted Jeep Corp and they’re giving me a discount on a replacement and trade in values make that make sense. Waiting on my replacement from the factory now.

Have the same exact issue. Mine can get pretty harsh depending on the day. Very frustrating and can make stopping difficult. I've also noticed when coasting in a high gear at low speed then getting back on the gas it will clunk or "slap" like a manual. Stock Rubicon, 6,500 miles.
Same issue for me as well ... going into the dealer tomorrow, wondering what your end result was?

I believe he lemon lawed it. See Post #32.

Let us know what your result is with the dealer. I have the same issue and have waited and drove it for a couple thousand miles after my last unsuccessful visit to the dealer to see if the clunk in 4th would resolve itself, but it hasn't. So in a week I am off to another dealer to see what they say about it.

Ok ... see it now wow! I am hoping to not have to go through all that ... however coming to a stop yesterday from 2nd to 1st was aggressive enough, having to apply more brake pressure than normal and that should be happening... so let's see will update later today

Disappointed to say the least ... however the mgr did say if the issue continues to schedule a return trip with one of the master mechanics ... I know it's there I felt it on my way home. Will prob give them another shot at it ....

Mines fixed now no more clunk. I had mine in the shop 3 times to find the clunk and they just kept saying it was normal well I left it to just that and stopped worrying about it. Just got a mopar lift, fox steering stabilizer and 35 inch tires and the noise now is completely gone so I have no ideal what fixed it but it’s fixed now. Hope this helps And no I’m not saying you must go get a lift and tires lol but it did stop the noise

My transmission clunk saga finally ended this past week. After taking my Mojave to another dealer in late December a STAR case was created. They did the relearn procedure and asked me to drive another 500 miles so they could collect the data and see if it would change anything. So after 500 or so miles I brought it back in last week. The clunk was still there in the low gears on downshifting. Dealer confirmed with Stellantis and ultimately they put in a new trans and torque converter. I have driven it a 100 miles or so and the shifting is noticeably better. I still have a slight clunk between 4th and 3rd gears but no where near what it was before.

I’ll drive it for a while and see if things settle a little more. Just happy to have this behind me and that I get to enjoy the Jeep I purchased back in Oct 20 more.
