2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon
Hello Everyone -
I have a 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon that came from the factory with Halogen's and am looking to do a complete OEM LED conversion. This topic has been discussed extensively before but with scattered and differing information, I am hoping to compile that information to get a complete understanding of every aspect before making the purchase.

I have had conversations with the Parts Department at my local dealer and received significant pushback in regards to the classification and compatibility of the parts I am planning to order. Of the parts list below, the dealer claimed that the LED headlights were not considered an accessory and not recommended by Jeep / Mopar (despite being in the accessory catalog) and that the LED's would not function, they claimed the Steel Bumper was an Accessory and is a simple bolt on (despite having LED's in them), and claimed none of the other parts LED's would function because the wiring harnesses differ and that they could burn up and melt. This was all discussed with the understanding of needing to flash the BCM, so their claims were coming strictly from wiring concerns. My guess is this guy just deals with all Mopar on the daily and not just Jeep.

I plan to use an OBD-II scanner and JScan to make the flashes, and have successfully used this to previously install and flash the Truck Bed Outlet and Auxiliary Switches. Parts list and my understanding of the install process to follow, please correct me where I am wrong.

Parts List:
MPN - 82215136AD – LED Headlights
MPN - 82215121AH – Rubicon Front Steel Bumper
MPN - 55112885AG – Park and Turn Signal: Left
MPN - 55112884AG – Park and Turn Signal: Right
MPN - 68336583AG – Tail Lamp: Left
MPN - 68336582AG – Tail Lamp: Right

Install Process:
LED Headlights
- Simply follow Mopar install instructions. Since I have a 2020, I will need to run the wire for the Halo's that should come with the package. Wire runs from each headlight connector (Pin 5) and run it through the firewall (same as auxiliary switches) into the BCM (Pin 5+7). Flash the system in JScan by enabling LED High Beam, LED Low Beam, Signature Lamp (Halo).
Steel Bumper - Simply follow Mopar install instructions. Flash the system in JScan by enabling LED Front Fog Lamps.
Taillights - Remove 2 bolts, pull straight out. Unplug wire harness and replace. There is no wire harness differences here, correct? Flash the system in JScan by enabling LED Rear Turn Lamps, LED Reverse Lamps, LED Stop Lamps, and LED Tail Lamps. LED Rear Fog Lights is an EU setting and not used in this case? Leave Rear Turn Lamp Diagnostics off?
DRLS - It will be a process to take apart the fenders and replace, but the LED side marker will just plug into the new larger turn signal unit and that unit will just plug directly into the existing wire harness with no wiring differences? Flash the system in JScan by enabling LED Front Park/Marker Lamps, LED Front Turn Lamps, LED Dedicated DRL. Leave Front Turn Lamp Diagnostics off?

I beleive that covers everything, any additional color from anyone will be greatly appreciated!

You've got it. My question is, why are they giving you pushback.. makes no sense.. Besides the wire you need to run for the OEM DRL, there really isn't much you are "altering" on the Jeep, as everything is plug-and-play. If the parts department thinks that Jeep would waste money having differing harnesses to such a degree that they aren't plug and play across models and options lists is wild to me.

As you mentioned, with JScan or Tazer, all changes from Halogen to LED can be made, from the front fogs to the turn signals, to the brakes.

The side marker is the same part. 0 difference. Halogen Mojave/Rubicon have LED side markers. The side marker plugs into the DRL harness. It has 3 plugs. One to the turns/DRL, one to the side marker, one to the body harness. The turn signal unit is also the exact same size since you have a Rubicon. You don't take the fender off at all, just partially pull back the liner after cutting 3 of the rear rivets and removing 4 christmas tree pins per side as well as several bolts.

You DO need the LED DRL wiring harness from light assembly to body harness plug mounted on the fender. The halogen plugs don't work with the LED DRL:

This explains how I dealt with the body side wiring harness difference for LED DRLs and what it is:

Here is a thread I made:

https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/...ng-as-it-has-rubicon-flares-mojave-etc.66275/

Don't turn on the LED fogs until AFTER you program. They'll likely blowup otherwise.

Thank you for the information!

I actually had come across this thread / topic before and was aware of depinning and not turning on the diagnostics, but can you elaborate on the wiring harness a bit more? When ordering the parts listed below, do they come with the needed harness or do they need to be ordered separately? What is that part number if so? When replacing, its simply replacing the harness attached to the fender that leads from the body to the DRL? Body side connection is the same but DRL side connection is different and that is why it needs to be replaced?

MPN - 55112884AG – Park and Turn Signal: Right

Body side connection remains the same physically, just the one wire coming from the DRL harness is for a different purpose than it will connect to on the halogen body side connector. The difference in plugs is on the DRL side. Not sure of the part #, I'll look around.

....seems to indicate the harness comes with it - but I am not sure. You might want to call BAM and ask.

I don't think there is any way you are going to source the headlight kit with halo harness by the way. It's been unavailable for a year and a half. I waited 1 year then gave up and bought the left and right lights separately. Luckily didn't need to do the harness.

I was about to edit my last response in regards to the headlights. As you mentioned, they have more or less been on indefinite backorder for a year or so plus, plan was to buy the kit from @AllMoparParts.com which is essentially the left and right headlights and the harness, which unfortunately I need.

From the looks of it, and what my dealer has told me, it seems like Jeep is phasing them out as an accessory option all together. They are no longer listed as an Accessory for my VIN on Mopar's website, and my Dealer telling me its not an accessory that works for my VIN. Likely wiring issues from dealer tech's etc... My guess is it wont be listed on the 2024 catalog either whenever that's released. Also weird that they are still pushing the Steel bumper with LED Fogs with so many reports of them blowing up before the flash, and their install instruction don't even mention a flash like the Headlights did.

I just bought a set of OEM LED taillights to replace the stock halogens and after turning on LED Tailights with Tazer, the bottom half of the brake light does not work. All other functions work properly. So, just wondering how yours turned out. Any issues?

To date, I have actually only swapped over the taillights because I had a running light out on one, and have had zero issues 5-ish months in. When I swapped them I did notice the wiring differed a little bit, but chalked it up to the diagnostics function mentioned before and ignored it and pressed on. Maybe there is a difference in the flashing from J-Scan vs the Tazer? Everything is functioning 100% for me.

I still plan to do all of the other swaps but as everyone knows, the headlights have been on national backorder for years it feels like, and haven't worked up the courage to buy used take-offs / the repair replacements at $1400 vs the kit at $800. Spoke with dealer this past week and they mentioned Jeep switched manufacturers and there is 500+ headlight kits on backorder nationwide.

Bought a set of used OEM Gladiator LED headlights and tail lights and just installed the Tazer JL Mini and the lights this evening. Almost all is well. For some reason, the passenger side halo isn't activating. Any ideas?

My gladiator is a 2023 and the factory LEDs came from a 2022.

Any help would be much appreciated!

All -
Unsure if anyone is still following this thread, but I finally completed my complete OEM conversion about two weeks ago and everything went off without a hitch and everything operates as if it was from the factory! Wanted to update y'all on the process and provide my notes / tips for anyone else still interested in doing an OEM LED conversion. Took me awhile to get around to it, parts are expensive and priorities shifted (bought a house, got married etc...), but it finally happened!

Comments below on each process, note this is for a 2020 Rubicon, experiences may differ with a different year or trim.

LED Headlights -
  • Install Time: 45 Mins - 3 Hours
  • Swapping the headlights is very easy and very quick if you have a 2021 or newer Gladiator or Wrangler (or do not care about the Halo's).
  • The crux comes up if you have a 2020 or older and want the Halo's to function properly. Re-pinning connectors, wiring through the fire wall and into the BCM takes time, especially when wanting to be as carful as you can. Following the instructions provided will suffice, but it is easier to take the whole fender off as opposed to peeling back the lining, so have fender clips available as they break easily.
  • Some 2021 and newer models require a short jumper harness from the passenger side to driver side headlight to allow the Halo to work properly on both sides, everything is included in the kit, but that explains the issue some of the users in here were having. I did not need that harness and can send it so anyone needing it.
  • Additional JScan programming - you have to not only set the signature lamp to Halo, you have to activate the signature lamp as well through a different setting.
DRLS -
  • Install Time: 2 Hours (1 Hour Per)
  • No actual instructions, process involves just carefully taking the fender apart to swap out. Easiest done when the fender is taken completely off, so have fender clips handy. You will have to cut out 1 fender rivet, Headlight kit comes with several that you don't need if you take the fender off instead. Don't need a rivet gun to replace, just a crescent wrench and pliers to hold the rivet down while pulling the head.
  • Obviously make sure you have the correct fender to support the DRL as a whole. I believe it was early model Sports (as opposed to Sport S's) that had a completely different fender design. Rubicon high vs overland / sport low fenders are not a factor.
Steel Bumper -

Taillights -

After all of this, I am selling, at steep discounts, all of the takeoff items if there is any interest.
  • Halogen Headlights
  • Halogen DRL's
  • Plastic Bumper with Halogen Lights (Rubicon Hooks)
  • Rubicon Steel Skid Plate + Brackets to install on a sport.
  • Halogen Tailights.
  • 2021+ Headlight Jumper Harness
