Completed a multi day tow

Probably not the longest on record here but Just finished a trip relocating from SoCal to NJ In the Gladiator. Total multi day mileage 3,251 miles. Burned about 250 gallons of diesel. The rig was incredible! Love this truck.

Truck performed flawlessly. Not sure I would have gotten the same performance if I still had the gasser.

I pulled my 21.5' center console on an aluminum trailer from Baytown (by Houston), down to the middle of the Florida Keys and back, and averaged about 14.5mpg in my stock gasser with not a single issue. If you consider the price comparison of gas vs diesel, I love my gasser better. I will admit, your trip was longer, but my trip was more fun. (You drove by about 4 miles from my house, just as you drove over the San Jacinto River on the east side of Houston on I10)

That trip in 2 days in itself is impressive.

Can you give us some information on the type of trailer and load, mpg ? What size tire and any gear change.

The trailer is a cargo conversion I built. Didn’t weigh it officially but likely just over to the max GVWR of 3500lbs. The trailer sits lifted and on 32“ AT tires and the box is 6x12x7 high. It’s basically a wind sail.

The truck sits on 35” tires. I installed a set of Air bags and it leveled out the rear. Highly recommended for anyone towing extra weight. Stock gears.

MPG across country was about 13MPG Hand calculated. we saw as low as 11MPg and as high as 16MPG. The sustained wind last week was a bigger factor than hill climbs.

I recorded each fuel fill up. Houston had the cheapest Diesel at 3.109. California was the highest at 4.999/gal. Not going to miss that but it seems that NJ isn’t much better than Cali at about 4.199/gal.

It makes a difference for sure. I think part of the reason my Gladiator tows so much more stable than my Colorado is because of my E load tires vs non Lt tires on the Colorado.

Originally (35 years ago) from South Jersey and I guess you know that NJ gets cold in the winter. That's why I moved to Miami (then more recently, down the road to the Keys).

A lot of stuff I don't like about Florida (the politics, lower wages, etc.) but if you like to trade in your long pants for shorts and like the water, Florida is the place to be. And if you read about the heat, the further south you go, the cooler in summer and warmer in winter it is. For what it's worth, only one day in recorded history did it ever reach 100F in Miami. And never had a high of 99F. Further down in the Keys, Key West had an all-time high many years ago of 97F. Go further north in Florida or towards the west coast, or get away from the ocean towards Georgia, and it can be like an oven.

Anyway, hope you enjoy NJ. You do have summers at the Jersey Shore and a lot of cold weather stuff to do, especially driving north in NY state.

Your Gladiator will like it.

EDIT: sorry @boxerman31 these are not fifteen 52 wheels. They are KMC KM720 Roswell rims 17x8.5 +18offset


Yes, Thanks! It’s been a while. I bought them online about 5 years ago as a package deal with the original 35s KO2. Can’t remember the site. They arrived before truck was built. Wife wasn’t happy about that.

We did a lot of off roading in California and AZ. Didn’t notice a big difference between D and E loading. Granted we weren’t climbing big rocks.

A lot of tires and sizes only come in E. That’s why I have them. It does depend some on the actual tires in question, but I can’t personally tell any difference in C and E load.

Yeah, we. Moved to San Diego from NJ 18 years ago to get away from the cold. Now we find ourselves back in NJ, the frozen tundra. Gonna get the gladiator onto the beach and the pine barons once it warms up.
