I‘ve been searching the forums and not finding the information I think I need. I have 35s on order for my 2022 Sport S, finally upgrading from the stock wheels and tires. I would like to reprogram the Jeep for the new size wheels, I understand both the Tazer and JScan will do this without having to keep it plugged in. However, there are some additionally features I really want to run as well such as:
  1. Disabling the ESS or at least the ESS remembering the last state of the switch - I really hate the ESS!
  2. Disabling the rear license plate lights on back up, the way my driveway is sloped and how cars are often parked in my cul-de-sac, I really want this feature!
  3. I’ll be installing a front camera soon.
I’m a bit concerned about leaving the Tazer plugged in and running given the number of posts here and on other forums regarding quirky/squirrelly behavior when leaving the Tazer plugged in.

On the JScan side, I understand they now have a feature that will disable the ESS but it also disables remote start - which I use often from key FOB and you must also do a hood pin mod.

I guess my question is, can I use the JScan to make the tire size changes, front camera mod and front camera activation, and then plug in and keel plugged in something like those smart-stop modules (e.g. - Autostop Eliminator)?

I’ve been running the tazer for over a year with no issues. It’ll do exactly what you want. JScan can do a lot but does not have the live features of the tazer like LP light blanking, rear locker in 2wd, sway bar disconnect in 2wd, and other stuff. I have both.

I've had the Tazer JL Mini installed in my '22 JTSD since shortly after I purchased it. I've had no issues besides one random time where my tire settings reset and my speedometer was off. It took me 5 minutes to rectify the issue once I realized why I was blowing past everyone on the highway while I was doing the speed limit. :)

I unmarry it every time I take it in for service, and then re-install when done. It's pretty simple. My use-case is pretty basic.
  • Disabled the rear plate lights on back-up. My bumper has these lights pointing right at the camera, so this was a must.
  • Enabled LED lights all around - my OEM was not LED, but they've all been swapped.
  • Disabled that dumb honk if I exit and close my door with the car running
  • Adjusted my tire size
  • Turned off TPMS as my after-market wheel TMPS doesn't seem to work and the warnings were annoying
  • ESS last-state memory - like everyone, I hate this "feature."
  • Enabled the 120v bed plug after I retrofitted it.

only tazer LIVE functions can to the license plate light disable and ESS last mode "remember".
JSCAN can do most other things.

I have noticed with my 2025 that they have drastically changed the rear camera - I don't have any issue with the license plate lights and the camera now. It's like they are shining some bright light directly behind you - the camera appearance is VERY different from my 20 and 22 models.
I'm wondering if Jeep didn't realize the problem and work to correct it?
Will be interesting going forward to see what other 2025 owners have to say about it.

As far as honk when exiting - just don't latch the door. REALLY simple. Besides, I don't exit the vehicle with the fob and leave it running anyway - bad mojo in many places. If for some reason I "have forgotten something" and go back to the house, I just don't latch the door. It only honks if fully closed. (it may annoy the owner, but around here, neighbors are used to a lot of noise anyway)
As far as warming it up in the winter - that's what remote start is for.

JSCAN can allow you to set the idle up for winch operation, change tire sizes, change gear sizes, modify TPMS operation or even disable it, change lighting types or functions (if you later install LED lighting), add 115v bed outlet function and much more
What it can't do is live functions of the tazer - rear camera on turn signal, ESS last state recall, and so on.
for license plate lighting if it DOES interfere with the camera at night - there's a simple circuit you can buy or build for that.

It all depends on your needs - you can do a ton of diagnoses, logging, gather up information on misfires, it's a huge diagnostic tool with functions even most people here don't know about.
If you must have the LIVE function of tazer, then spend the extra money.
If you just need the other stuff - save the money and get more functionality for logging, troubleshooting and such.
AlfaOBD is another option - and it's NOT limited to one single VIN!
You can use it on any FCA vehicle you own by a single license purchase. It's got a whale of a lot of functionality to it, easy to use, if you own 2 Jeeps or a Ram truck or whatever, you can use it on anything you own that's FCA without limitations.
But like JSCAN, it can't do the live functions of Tazer.

I have a tazer lite and a flashcal+. The tazer sits on a shelf. I know I'm in the minority here but I find it's a pain in the butt to use. The Flashcal+ much much more user friendly and does everything I need, and a lot more crap that I don't.

Is the Tazer license plate feature a setting that you have to turn on or is it just supposed to happen automatically? Mine stopped working a while back

From the instructions that come with it:
License Plate Blanking: The license plate lights will automatically turn off when in reverse or using TurnCam to remove glare on the camera at night

I’ve had a Tazer for about 9 months and its plugged in all the time. No issues….

I remove it when I have dealership visits.

With the Tazer - there are specific procedures you have to follow to remove it and/or to make non-live function changes. If you don’t follow the procedures properly, you could end up with strange things happening……

The Tazer instructions are horrible to explain those procedures (for how critical the process is).

I’ve had my Tazer out twice in those 9 months. I ended up writing and printing my own instructions because the next time I need to take it out, I won’t remember!!

I have the Tazer for changing all lighting to LED, tire size, and a couple other things. The live functions are cool too. It does have an issue that others have reported as well. It can mess with the audio levels randomly turning it up or down. I talked with a Tazer rep at the Daytona Beach, Jeep Beach week about it and he said they were aware of it and trying to figure it out as an infotainment update broke it.

Thanks for that. I tried updating the software on it, reinstalling, and 2 sleep cycles, but still license plate lights on in reverse (but they used to turn off). I feel like I've read about other people having this happen, but don't really know the solution 🤷🏻‍♂️

I get that when I play with “dark car”. Usually a reboot fixes it. It also did it when I played with light show settings.

I love jscan works like bluedriver but does a ton of other things, including reading and allowing you to adjust many modules vs the tazer which does certain things....and it allows you to do it from phone vs the steering wheel. It also has off road mode.... This allows you to monitor several things, including temps, it also allows you to turn on fans... for people with locker n sway disconnect you can do that also from jacan on phone...it also gives live data. And you can use it on another Jeep vehicle with $20+ license..... to me Tazer seems good but it's more of a one trick pony (but it does most of what most people want) but it can't be used for your other vehicles. There are two extra pieces of gear you need (bluetooth dongle, cable) which I used the cheaper one on jscan site and it works perfectly. Just $.02 to put with the rest of the change.

Best two jscan links I used
