So you do not like Carfax because it can record accidents and you do not want the next buyer knowing that?
No that’s not the problem, the problem is if someone hits you and it’s 100% their fault, you lose value on your vehicle to no fault of your own.

Assuming the other person was insured, you can file a diminished value claim against them.

I get the suck of the situation but somebody has to absorb it and eat the shit sandwich. I have been through it with uninsured illegals hitting my wife when we lived in Texas.

I have been through it too, my vehicle with only 3000 miles took a $2500 hit on value because I got rear ended while stopped because it had a carfax on it. It definitely isn’t right that you lose value because of someone else’s negligence.

I'm partially crippled from being hit by someone trying to get an insurance scam. My ins co wasn't having that. brand new 22 zx10r krt edition, 5000 miles in a month, then BOOM exploded and launched me 15 feet into the air. The finance company is playing fraud games and keeps acting like they never accepted full payment from GAP, I SAW YOU DEPOSIT THAT CHECK MOFOS!

It IS possible to alter a carfax, not easy but legit and possible.

In context of what is being discussed here, why would someone want an accident removed from a CarFax other than to hide the fact and pass off a vehicle that is clean?

I have seen people deal with mileage discrepancies on a CarFax that has had a negative impact to value. Usually it is from a shop mistake in the reporting and CarFax will not correct it unless the reporting shop submits a correction and that where people run into issues.

The whole point of Carfax - or so it used to be - is to show history of repairs and/or registrations, etc regardless of who was at fault or the type of accident it was. It’s a physical object that has a history….. and history of repairs/damage.

Carfax is more for BUYERS….. Put yourself in a BUYERS seat. THere’s a reason why values can be lower….BUYERS don’t want to pay big money for a car that’s been in a lot of accidents, in a flood, or in a fire, or had frame damage or anything else. A Buyer doesn’t care who caused the damages.

Mine went through three insurance companies. Guy who hit me, mine and the guy that I got pushed into in front. Like I said, nothing in Carfax
Same thing happened to me. T-boned leaving work in my Mustang GT two years ago. Almost $10k in damages. My insurance AND the other drivers insurance notified. State Police report filed. Over a year later, NOTHING about the accident showed up on my Carfax when I traded the car in.

I agree, it’s great info for the buyer, that’s great. But the one who gets their vehicle damaged due to someone else’s negligence will have the value of their vehicle be less. So someone rear ends you while sitting at a stop light, their insurance is going to fix your vehicle, but now when you trade or sell your vehicle it’s value will be quite a bit less and it was not your fault but you actually lose value on your vehicle. All I am saying is you don’t get compensation for your vehicles loss of value because it now has a carfax to no fault of your own. And also the fact it’s not 100% accurate as I have personally seen a clean carfax come back on cars that definitely had damage that was repaired.

Seems that I have heard that dealers know how to "wash" a car fax clean.

So I went to my local Jeep dealership today and drove a 2024 Gladiator Sport S and considering trading my 2021. pretty much the same truck , different color, but it has the side curtain airbags and the adaptive cruise control which I really like. The truck only has 20,000 miles and they are asking 32995.00. The Carfax looks good, Just not my first choice on the color. It is black and I have owned black trucks in the past. They look great clean but hard to keep that way. Anyway, what do you guys think?
I'd struggle to buy something that I don't love when (at least near me) there are many brand new leftover 2025 Gladiators sitting around with those features for $38K (six High Tides for $40K and less).

How can you blame a carfax report for such a drop in value?? That’s a very small piece of it (if at all). There are so many other reasons why a vehicle drops in value - and sometimes, it’s nothing to do with your vehicle‘s condition but simply from supply & demand, or other market related issues.

My previously owned Tacoma was rear-ended and the whole side of the bed was repainted. A few years later, Toyota replaced the whole frame due to their rust issues (warranty for me, but insurance claim for them). I don’t know how that would show up on the carfax report…I didn’t care. There was no surprises at all with the resale value and it has NOTHING to do with anything on the carfax report.

How much $$ are we talking here? Are you thinking your dropping $5000 in value because someone rear-ended you?
