Very surprised this has made it eight pages without getting too political. Very unlike a bunch of other offroading and shooting forums that I frequent. So I along with others here will bite my tongue and follow the rules.
I have had this crap twice now, most recently mid January, and still have about 50% loss of taste and smell. I have had COPD for many years and this second bout of chicom flu has done a number on my lungs. Finished up a week of antibiotics last Monday and got about two days of actually being able to breathe before the wheezing, coughing, and feeling like I'm suffocating returned. I see a Pulmonologist on Monday. I'm going to see if I can't convince them to give me the lungs out of some young healthy fella. I'll be 60 in a couple of months and I still have places to go and things to see.
I just have to figure out where to get one of the compliance cards as my daughter bought me tickets for the 2022 Daytona 500 for a retirement present and I'm sure we'll need the papers by then to board an airplane.
I will not be getting chipped or vaccinated or whatever it is you feel about the shot. Working for the Corps they damn near came to forcing us to get it but so far it's not mandatory. Should it become so I will retire before December.
I'll just be glad when the mask fiasco is over so I can breathe better when I have to replenish the groceries.
Meanwhile y'all stay safe and healthy, and do what you gotta do for you. Nice to see a semi civil debate about this whole ordeal.

Well good luck with the lungs. Don't know if they discussed it with you, but getting a new organ isn't so easy and is a long process. Plus you'll be on strong drugs that will seriously kill your immune system. I've had two kidney transplants so far. The first when I was 13, the second at age 28. It was easier when I was a kid. Once you're an adult it gets harder. Tons of repeat testing, matching, crossmatching, even psychological evaluations.

Nice to see more appointments opening up in our state.

Two the the three kids and myself are fully vaccinated, wife gets second shot next week.

Youngest son (28) who was not eligible for shot yet tested positive, but luckily has no significant impairments. He is hunkered down in Philly

I hope those kidneys continue to serve you well for many years to come. I know about the recovering from major surgeries being tougher the older you get. Was active duty when I had open heart surgery at 39 in 2000 so was in much better shape at that time. Then in 2014 I was paralyzed from Spinal Stenosis and Central Cord Syndrome ending up with an emergency Laminectomy. Five weeks in the hospital before they sent me home compared to eight days after the heart surgery.
Probably at this point in life I wouldn’t even be a candidate for lung transplants, just a wish so I could get rid of the COPD and enjoy life much more.

Glad that you feel it’s working out for you. Does for some, not so much for others. May you continue to stay healthy and happy.

My whole family had the disease. After 6 months, I still test positive for antibodies. I don't see enough benefit from a vaccine to justify the risk. My parents haven't taken the vaccine yet. Right now, they are my only concern.

Edit: My local blood bank gives a free antibody test with every donation. Save a life and know for sure.
It's been about 9 months now. Still testing positive for antibodies. My mid 70s parents took the Pfizer vaccines and are doing fine.

Sorry you got it, but as a nurse it is good to hear the antibodies are still there, gives me hope because my concerns have been that this becomes like the annual flu or pneumonia.

Coming from the military, I am used to experimental vaccines. Havrix, GammaGlobin, several others. I got my 2 shots already, I was more than happy to not get this thing and spread it to someone else killing them!

I had no choice when I got the ones in the military. This was my choice. I wasn't having someone else's death on my conscience over something as simple as wearing a mask or getting a harmless shot!

Thank you for your service and as a nurse, thank you for getting the vaccine. Anyone choosing to not get it is a fool. This is a new virus, with possible long term affects, if you have the chance to get immunity without getting the disease, take it. The virus is not going to disappear so you will eventually get exposed to it down the road if not already.

So you're going to choose to get covid to get your immunity. Hopefully it will be mild and you won't end up a long termer, because it is not looking like this virus is going to magically disappear.
