My Rubicon EcoDiesel Gladiator started giving me all sorts of error codes and sometimes won't start if it has been sitting for a day or two without driving.

It sometimes says Water in Fuel, sometimes says it is preheating, sometimes says low voltage, etc... There is no water in the fuel, I have changed the filter, etc... multiple times. If I let it sit for a couple minutes I can retry and it will usually start and everything goes back to normal. Start/Stop does not work at, ever, and just says charging or something like that...

The only code it has ever is B2199-16.

I assume the little battery under the main is toast. Is this usually covered under warranty, or should I just go buy a new battery for it?

Or is this something else entirely?

Thanks!

Just went through a similar stop start issue. Error message was something like "Stop/Start not available/Take to dealer for service". Scheduled an appointment with the local dealer, Redlands Jeep California, and they took care of the problem 100% under warranty. I purchased the Gladiator in January of 2021 and it has almost 19k miles on the clock. Don't hear things like this often on this forum, However, I have to say the service Redlands Jeep provided was excellent.

Those are signs that one or both of the batteries has issues. They could be failing, or it is just not driven enough. If the batteries are the problem, it is covered under the 3/36 warranty. It is not a quick process. The dealer has a long list of instructions to follow in order to get a warranty replacement approved.

Any updates on this? Is the issue fixed?

i Just started getting the exact same codes and symptoms this morning (just in time for Jeep beach!) and I’ve parked it until the dealer opens up on Monday.

I just went through this and it was bad batteries. I replaced the big one and bypassed the small one. I don't use start/stop. I left it in there until I have time to remove it.

Yes. After the dealer replaced both batteries all the problems went away. Start Stop works properly and I don't get any codes. The water in fuel issue appears to have been related to battery problem.

Thanks for the reply, that’s a relief to hear.
Disappointed it happened when it did, it’s 75 and sunny here, had the doors and top off and kids all loaded to go to the pool. I was also going by the speedway tomorrow to kick off Jeep beach but it looks like I’m heading to the dealership instead.

Just following up in case anyone else runs into this issue.

like everyone else in this thread it turned out to be a battery issue.

Ironically when the dealer checked it there were no codes in the system, but I Showed them pictures I took and they investigated.

Turns out the Aux battery was deader than disco, tested at 0V. Dealer also checked for water in fuel, just to be safe, and fuel was good.

Dealer replaced the Aux battery and did an ECU update. All is good now, start/stop is working again and no more crazy error messages.

all covered under warranty.

Glad to hear, but I sure hope they tested the main battery as well. Since they are connected, if that aux had a short or extremely low resistance it could have caused issues for the main battery. AGM batteries don't like to be sitting or used at much less than full charges for any length of time. It literally chips away at their capacity.
I'd want that thing charged, then load tested.

they did test the main battery and it tested OK. That being said, the aux battery also tested good 3k miles ago when I brought it in for the start/stop not working. I too suspect the main battery will soon shit the bed but because it tested good there is nothing they could do under warranty.
