Took my ‘21 w/ 7000k miles in on 3/3 front axle boot leaking grease, let’s just say Jeep Cares has been less than helpful, (my case manager “never got a notification and their VM doesn’t work”) anyway, have a road trip planned from MD to Utah in 2 weeks how concerned do y’all think I should be…. Not a serviceable part apparently, so new front axle needed being told a month out *note they just expedited it today to parts after a week of no one getting back to when I started the case 3/10. Appreciate any feedback.

Did you go to Jeep cares before going to the dealership?

Summary of the BS..
Dealership 3/4
Back to dealership 3/10 to have the work done, to be told 2hrs after dropping off the service advisor is “no longer there” and no one ordered the part, to be told part is 20 days + out.
jeep cares call 3/10 to be sold a call back on 24hrs with an update,
Called 3/14 after no one called left a VM for a case manager they said I had been assigned but who had never made contact
Called 3/16 after no call still, asked for a supervisor who called today saying case manager “never got the notification and that the VM system has been down and that they will call back Monday. Tried to go higher and was told there is no one else to escalate to.

Can you try another dealership?

According to the dealership it’s a jeep back order for the front axle assembly, and when jeep cares finally got back they confirmed that. Did loose a week from the dealership with the fired service advisor not ordering the part, but it’s on jeep at this point to expedite a part.

On my previous '06 Subaru Baja, I put around 5,000 miles on a leaking CV boot with no issues. I also had a boot completely separate (much worse than a leak) when I was 700 miles from home and had no issues getting back home. Since that CV joint is apparently non-serviceable (that seems odd), a little grit in there will not affect the longevity since the entire joint (axle) will be getting replaced soon.

The dealer isn't really BSing about having to replace the whole shaft. Well, technically they need to replace just the one joint, but that's really not cost effective these days. Once you actually notice the boot leaking, chances are the joint is already contaminated with dust, dirt and moisture. Even if you just changed the boot (again, for the labor involved to do that properly, it's cheaper to replace the entire shaft) the joint is likely going to fail prematurely. The aftermarket has "split" boots that you can put on without pulling the shaft and taking the joint apart, but they're ALL garbage, and again the joint is still going to fail early.

I hate to say it, but while I would drive the crap out of it like that locally until the shaft came in, IDK that I would drive across the country, presumably do some hardcore offroading in Utah, and then drive back like that. Locally no big deal, there's no real load on it in 2wd anyway. But I'd hate to be in the middle of nowhere, needing a shaft (or worse if it breaks) that is backordered for weeks.

Appreciate it , in my gut I know that is all true, just sucks to be geared up for the trek to have to bail…. Lots of miles with nothing around out there for sure..

Same thing happened to me this week (leaking CV boot). Waiting to hear from dealer this morning, but not pleased to read that this sounds like a new axle. Anyone know if they are better at getting parts now than they were in the spring?
