SelecTrac units have front axle CV joints (RocTrack full time transfer case in the case of a Rubicon like he has.)

Or the appropriate version of this kit so you don't have to pull the shaft and rebuild the joint.

Jeep Gladiator Torn CV joint boot cover from road twine. IMG_7938

If the OP is talking about the CV front axle shaft boot, here is a replacement. FYI: several models came with CVs from the factory that weren’t full-time AWD (SelecTrac or RockTrac).

Hello .thank you for the part page. Are you saying that the boot cover alone can be replaced? I did find the tear in the boot shortly after it happened. So I belive little or no damage at all has happened to the joint it self...

CVs can be rebuilt, but the labor is often as much as replacing the part, so most shops just want to swap the whole assembly out. However, if the part is back ordered or is very expensive (like a drive shaft vs a half shaft) it may make more sense to do a rebuild with a new boot.

I haven’t personally replaced the boot, but it is my understanding from a prior post (that I saved the photo from) that is the case with that boot. Repair away! YMMV

I really can’t tell if this means “driveshaft” (i.e. the CV joint on the rear driveshaft) or “front half-shaft CV on the driver side of the truck”

OK, finally got the info that it is the driveshaft, not a front axle. Lets narrow it down a bit more, is it the boot on the CV that is at the rear differential pinion? This boot should be replaceable, the dealer would want to replace the whold driveshaft, which of corse is on backorder. A google search should put you on track to find a replacement boot. Or you could get this if you can't find the boot as a separate part: https://www.quadratec.com/p/crown-automotive/cv-joint-repair-kit-wrangler-jl-68272524frk

Are you saying the boot cover can be changed alone? The dealer was to replace the shafft and all.
Because the dealer isn’t thinking straight. Mopar probably doesn’t provide a boot separately, so they’re blindly quoting you an axle shaft replacement.

This would have saved me a ton of money in the past, if I knew it existed.
