Ouch. That really sucks. Wish there was some way to beef up our windshields!

does mopar still offer the gorilla glass windshields?
Wasn't an option this time around. Oddly enough, the last set of insurance data I heard was that there was not a significant difference with upgraded to gorilla glass vehicles. Maybe that is why it wasn't an option?!

I’m not sure about your particular state but this is usually covered under your Comprehensive Insurance...all you’ll have to do is pay the deductible.

I've been waiting for that to happen myself. The flat windshield is a magnet for rocks and bugs. Sorry to see this, I have read many of your posts and enjoy them as well as your insight of being a JT owner/builder. hang in there brotha and make sure you have the glass insurance on that nice new truck!

I added glass coverage so that will replace one windshield a year at no charge. I think the added coverage is about $10 a year.

So what if the windshield is blown out... Does that mean JT is offline for a month because no replacement glass?

Actually, MOPAR already uses acoustic glass...

IMG_8519-e1564241206351.webp
This is true. It was a misconception on the JL that you had to get the Alpine upgrade to get acoustic glass.

does mopar still offer the gorilla glass windshields?
Unfortunately no. We’ve been told for the last year that it’s coming. However, I’m not convinced it would make that much of a difference.

Didn't end up being a month. About 10 days to get one.

The recalibration fee for the adaptive cruise is a sham. Safelite wanted to charge $200 for the recalibration as a part of changing my Cherokee windshield. Problem was, they couldn't get it to calibrate. I took it to the dealership and they noticed that Safelite didn't push the camera close enough to the class in the housing. I actually did the "recalibration" trip with Safelite, driving the car while they used their code reader. Literally takes like 5 minutes to do and they charge $200. The dealership didn't even charge my insurance (I have full OEM glass replacement on all of my vehicles).

Living in FL we don't have to pay a deductible...the insurance has to cover it. Course they could raise your rates... but usually won't if you don't have more than one per year.

Yj, 60k miles, 4 years, lifted, no glass issues; TJ, 130k miles, 8 years, lifted, 3 windshields, Wife’s TJ, 18k miles, 3 years, lifted, no issues. JK, 94k miles, 6 years, lifted, 1 crack and bunches of pits. Don't know where i was going with that , maybe it will come back to me?:headbang::idea:
Sounds like the solution is to lift your Jeep to help avoid cracked windshields. That's your common denominator :)

I wish that was the case. But my JL is on a 3.5" lift and I'm about to put in my 3rd windshield.

I wish it was that easy! Really just dumb luck. I have had eight Jeeps...only 4 cracked windshields....3 in the last nine months.

I learned to repair my windshield myself with the Rain-X glass repair kit. It actually filled the chip to almost completely clear about half the time. I never had a chip spread and I sold my '15 JKU with it's original windshield when I ordered my JTR.
