Dang! Even Gorilla Glass wouldn't have helped with this rock to the windshield!

Wow - glad that the lady wasn't seriously hurt. That's a big honking rock, they had to be going pretty fast if that thing "jumped" out of the back of a truck, hit the ground, then bounced into and through the windshield. (Set note to self to have that dang auto cruise control set for "max" distance)

This is exactly what I was thinking... there is zero chance the rock came out of the back of a truck that was traveling the same speed in the same direction as them. There would have to be a MASSIVE difference in speed between that rock and the Jeep in order for it to go through the windshield and still have that much energy in it.

Most reasonable explanation I can think of is it came off a truck/trailer that was traveling in the opposite direction as the Jeep.

Most of the time you see those is when some idiot throws them on the freeway. Sounds like this one is a load of rocks not secured down

I have seen that when a rock gets stuck between dual mounted tires. Once enough speed occurs it flings out like it was shot out of a catapult.

An old timer when I used to ride motorcycles carried large ball bearings in a pouch attached to his bars. If you pushed too much, he would just toss a couple over his shoulder. They would bounce once, and the vehicles speed would then put them into and often through the front windshield of the offending vehicle.

If you are going down the highway at 70 MPH and hit something that big, it is amazing if it doesn't come through the windshield. When I lived in Alaska, I knew people who would hit Ravens and end up with the windshield in their lap.

Man, I'd like to see the tire that threw that one up! LOL! Glad everyone was ok.
