Turns out the bars on ARE's Classic HD cap come attached with hardware specifically designed for awnings! I just used some of the extra tent hardware to mount it. Amazing.

Looks like I was not lucky enough so i need to track down some cross bars or a platform for the awning to mount to... maybe just do some extruded aluminum if nothing else.

Does anybody know what this piece is? What it does? (I bought the 87" tent, annex, cold weather exterior cover, interior insulation, and 2.3m 270° awning.)

Took a two day trip this weekend and really put the tent through the ringer bouncing over Tincup. Partly regret not getting the cold weather insulation but nothing heavy clothing and appropriate bedding can't solve. Both campgrounds extremely quite since everything is shutting down this and the next weekend. Not sure if I still be getting out again in October since we going to Moab at the end of the month. Either way definitely going to go more next year.

Ready for surf fishing tomorrow, slid awning in on side six inches, had to cut my bars also slid front so it looks to be that if it is raining with lift gate under should be dry, doesn’t look bad and rack is lockable on and easily removable with no tools going to figure something in garage under the doors to hang it on, with cables perhaps it is not too heavy including the rack maybe 55lbs.
Oh yes even though they give you enough bolts to but six on each bracket the middle slots were off about 1/4”, had to take it of again just use four!…….Jack

Do the side doors on the cap still open with the awning mounted like this? I picked up the same awning during this sale and am just now getting around to moving it from the trailer to the SmartCap.

I threw together a quick bar setup with some extrusion I had lying around, but I need more height to clear the doors.

Wish I didnt, because I think it looks great tucked in nicely to the cap, but I am not willing to lose access to my side bins just to have an awning.

Yup, I am higher then you slightly, about 1/2” above truck top , I used Yakima removable racks , the awning is hanging in the garage above the Glady now. It works good in the rain and awning doors open enough I don’t walk into them , as for tucking it in , I might push mine in about an inch to be better on mild off-road trails…..Jack

Thought y'all might get a kick out of my DIY tent lift. (1) Front bumper winch line through a soft shackle that's attached to a D-ring permanently drilled into the concrete; (2) then under the jeep to another soft-shackle/D-ring combo; (3) up to another soft-shackle/D-ring combo in the garage door's header beam; (4) and down to the wooden tent frame I built. Marine carpet and rubber rollers let me just push it right off into place.
