Dealers in CA seem to be adding on about $4k worth of trash.

Anti corrosion
Nitrogen in tires
Some GPS tracker BS
Cloth and pain warranty
Some other thing I don't care about

They say they cannot remove the items without costing labor.

What are you guys doing about them? So far I'm just walking out. $4k in trash is crazy

I'd walk out too. You'll find yours! It took me three years

Buy out of state and bring it back, flew to Phoenix and rolled back to Ridgecrest in a day for the JK. Cal dmv has all of the paperwork you need on their site, just make sure the dealer doesn’t sit on the title/certificate of origin… the penalty for over 15 days sucks. Never found a reasonable Jeep dealer in California- everything was always marked way up for no reason.

I did an out-of-state deal by email, text, and phone - flew in, drive the truck home.

They think you will pay rather than deal with another dealer, vote with your wallet.

Dealer adds have been part of new car sales all my car buying life, over 50 years. Want $$ for a spray can of Scotch Guard, or a good wax job. Tell them you’re not paying for the scam, and be prepared to walk.

Nitrogen in tires is nonsense for 99% of owners, a warranty doesn’t cost anything not to take.

I caught the charge for the nitrogen and told them I wasn’t good with paying for it and they took it off, no questions asked. I’d have no idea if they have the upper hand in negotiating price based on supply/demand/strike or ifyou have the advantage but you should definitely object to this one. My opinion anyway.

agree with others, don't buy it if they won't remove/reduce the charges. They know what they're doing and just trying to pad their profits, but it's easy enough for you just to buy from another dealership. You could even send them a copy of one you're going to purchase from another dealer if they don't budge, and then it's on them if they want you as a customer or not.

My local dealer wasn't really willing to work with me on a deal, so I bought one out of state (4 hrs drive away), and was painless even with needing to get it registered in my home state. The dealer I bought from tried to surprise charge me with the blinky brake light "upgrade" for $500 after I arrived at their dealership to do the paperwork, and I think he immediately knew my position on that after a glared at him for a few seconds. They threw it in for free.

Agreed. I’ve flown from TN to PA to buy a car and drove the 500 miles home. Absolutely not playing that game. I was lucky in that I didn’t have to battle that on my recent Mojave purchase. No add ons.

The dealer I bought my JTR from only tried a couple of things when it came to finalizing the deal. I simply stated that this is the price I'm paying. They can either make the deal or I'm leaving. There are enough other dealers that will take my money.

When I bought my JK years ago, they tried the nitrogen upcharge. I said it's a Jeep, one lets the air out of the tires frequently. Not paying for it here or when needing to air up. It's not my problem that you added it. They ate the charge.

If they had a GPS tracker in the Jeep as a dealer installed item, I would have insisted it be removed and I would not be paying for it. Everything else they can try to tack on, it's their problem. I'm not paying for it.

All I'm paying for is the negotiated base price of the vehicle (without any dealer add ons), which includes discounts and incentives , the taxes, required fees, state registration and tags. If I want an extended warranty, they better be able to match Tom Winkels Mopar plan and price or that's not happening either.

Do you want to build one? I worked with the GM of a local dealership to build an AEV vehicle. Went super smooth and the price was the best I could find (below invoice). Let me know.

Dealers around here do the same crap. Ceramic paint protection and theft GPS, I have them remove it every time. Stand your ground and don't give in. Most times they will take it off the price.

Ford dealer got me for a little on my last truck.

I asked about a spray in liner. They told me "all of the trucks they sell get a plastic bed liner". I figured for free, I'll take it.

Sales invoice had a $300 charge on it for a bed liner.

I cast a wide net and watched for a truck with what I wanted. I am in NC and the ones in the Carolinas and Virginia didn’t seem to add stupid things. I got lucky with exactly what I wanted close by.
