I am contemplating installing a Decked system in the bed of my JTRD. I noticed that these become available on the for sale forum from time to time so people have purchased these and then decided they were not a good solution for them. I would like to hear the pros and cons from those of you that have experience with these...thanks!

Quality is top notch. The flat top was a plus for me.
I sold mine because the 2 drawers were not enough enclosed space for me. The amount of usable space is about 50/50 under the top.

I thought about this at one point. But opted to not get them because:

cost
extra weight
makes other items in bed sit higher raising center of gravity
didnt want to have to lower tailgate and pull out slide 4’ just to get to something - especially if backed against a wall or tree

All that being said, extra weight was the biggest factor for me. Its quite heavy And that was a big sacrifice I wasnt willing to accept.

But they are really nice options.

Had one on a previous rig. I found it to be heavy, and not really functional space.

A friend has one in a Tundra. I’d agree you only get about 50% usable space vs space occupied. Between that and the weight, cost, and permanence I’m not a fan

I looked at them. Overlanding and camping weeks at a time it looked convenient for storage but it just weighed too much. With a limited payload I couldn't justify the extra weight for just a little better organization. They definitely have a place, just not the way I'm setup.

I considered getting one. Ultimately, they don’t have enough storage for the amount of space they take up. On top of that they are very heavy and you’d end up stacking stuff on top of the deck’d system which makes your cog even higher. I opted for molle panels in the bed and tie downs which are much more versatile and a fraction of the cost.

Here’s some pics to help you gauge. You lose bed height for sure. I loved having them but also heavy, makes it hard to carry stuff if you don’t have rack to strap stuff In. Also was pain until I put the bed slide on top of it. That was the perfect set up. Nice to have things organized and readily available.

I am having mine installed on Wednesday. Very excited to have this option. COG isn't really an issue, most also use a bed rack as well, which is what I am doing with my setup.

I see a bunch of these for sale used, kind of steered me away from buying one. Figured there was a reason so many of these go on the market second hand. I also like to put stuff in the bed...

That's amazing you found them used. I have been looking for a used one for the last couple months. Maybe it's a location thing. West coast East coast kinda....

Really funny you mention that. I just checked your area and there are literally none within 500 miles on the market. I saw a bunch down in FL for 600-800 these past few months which is what made them so tempting!

Are you happy with the Decked system? I am on the line. I am worried about space and weight.

At this point we really love it. We haven't had it out overlanding yet but I don't anticipate anything to change. We are going to use the smaller drawer for annex tent, tools and recovery stuff and the larger will be for our dry food, cooking stuff and misc. The rest of our overlanding equiptment will be in the trailer we pull.
