My 2020 with 61,000 miles did the same thing.
I accelerated to pass a car - check engine light came on ,start & stop not available ? I was going over 70 duh.
Pulled over shut her off ,restarted everything was fine.
A week later same scenario took to dealer. Lifters wiped out cam .No prewarning ,no previous ticking.
I did baby her until those times to pass a slower car.
Maybe thats why it didnt show up earlier in its life.
Same thing happened to me at 68K miles with my 2020 Gladiator. I bought it Oct. 2019. Same exact symptoms. The passenger side intake cam (high lift lobs) and rockers were toast. totally wore out. The exhaust cam and rockers were fine. How was your driver's side intake cam ? I have not checked mine, and my truck is running great again with the new intake cam and rockers on the passenger side. I am worried the other side may have the same problem..... Thanks in advance for any info.

I had a 93 ford ranger do this, exactly as you’ve described.
turned out to be a bad MAF sensor, it was dirty. Cleaned with electrical parts cleaner-GENTLY- it’s essentially a light bulb filament.
I’d hazard a guess and say that jeep is using a speed density sensor. I’ve had mine out. It’s likely going bad.
alternately check all the hose clamps on your intake. See if anything is loose. A loose clamp is letting extra air in, that hasn’t been metered and will cause a similar “chug a lug” effect.

why : how would a mechanical issue manifest itself and then completely disappear?

All the error codes and misfires were only the passenger side head, intake cam. The intake cam and rockers were replaced and the engine is running fine again. It is a whole other job to remove the intake and the driver's side valve cover to inspect the driver's side intake cam.... Since, I have no known issues on the Drivers side, I have not uncovered that valve cover to take a peak... So, I was wondering if anyone had the same issue on the Drivers side head.

The adaptive memory reset was a Hail Mary pass. I probably would have done the same but knowing it was 50/50 at best of being solved.

I think it was 2021 when they redid the PCM programming to make the misfire detection recording more tolerant (more misfires) before setting the CEL. My speculation is the adaptive memory reset just bought a bit of time but the caseation is still there.

The #3 is the right passenger side bank. Should not be that much trouble for them to pop the valve covers and take a look.

Update number 3.

picked up the gladiator today. They replaced the passenger side intake rockers and camshaft. This is a 2021 (ordered in August, built in October) with just under 30k on the odometer.

I don’t really know what to do with it now. I guess I still have about half of the powertrain warranty left so maybe I’ll just drive it and cross my fingers.

lol, join the club... At least you did not have to pay for yours... So far, I have not heard any issues about the driver's side intake cam and rockers..., but, only time will tell...

Following this thread.
I put my 2023 with 15k on it in the shop on Wednesday for the CEL. Today the service rep relayed the message from the tech:
“Tech says that one of the codes is related to the oil change being due, but there is another one that could potentially be for the phaser. Tech is going to do the oil change in the morning and further test tomorrow.”

So today I got this from my service rep

“Alrighty - so not the greatest news. But we checked the oil and there was a lot of metal in the pan, which means that it has contaminated the system. This is causing the actuators to not properly function, and trigger the check engine light. At this time, tech would like to replace the engine. We can get that done by the end of the week next week, Friday 7/26 at the latest. Luckily, we have access to an engine quickly. Of course, all of this is covered under warranty too. “

Holy crappola. Looks like I’m getting a new engine.

I think my first question after the engine replacement is how does this problem occur and what can be done to avoid it.
