Diesel fuel filter- is this normal? (pics)

I've religiously changed my fuel filter at 15k mile intervals. This is the third one I've installed (OEM) and each time, there is sediment present on the top of the filter. Its always the same amount and same texture/color. It does not appear to be attractive to a magnet and has the consistency of fine grains of sand. Any idea what it could be? Is the fuel on the exterior of the fuel filter from the tank side or the pump side of the system? I've used EDT treatment with every tank since day 1. Thanks in advance!

Nope- the truck rarely gets filled up at the same pump twice. Lots of cross country and long highway duty for it.

My guess would have to be dirt. Looks like your filter is doing it’s job.

Most if not all cartrige type filters, it's filters from the outside in. Mine has diesel fuel only when i changed at 15k mi. I didn't used any additives. You can try adding some EDT with diesel fuel in a jar and observe.

I’ve never had the same diesel in it for more than a week to 10 days so I’m assuming this is from fuel that has sat in a station’s tank for awhile, but it seems to accurately describe my situation

Could be one of the stations that you get fuel at. Doesn't sell a lot of diesel.

I must have bad luck with stations because I rarely go to the same one twice and always go to high volume places (mostly truck stops) to avoid stale diesel.

I cant imagine being the guy who takes a picture of a fuel filter that has approx. 750 gallons pumped through it and acts surpirsed there is debris on it.

It just takes one time and one tank fill to contaminate a fuel tank. Stuff never washes out on it's own with subsequent fueling. You have to treat your tank to break the cycle.
