I’m the opposite, I like the dual purpose of it. You don’t need a snorkel all the time, so the low mount works perfect. The turbo will suck in as much air as it needs. At 16psi it’s not asking for a lot of air. The tubing is a squashed 3” but I bet the turbo inlet isn’t larger than 3” so that doesn’t matter. Also, functionality is a moot point considering the AEV is throwing codes and the company hasn’t even found a solution yet.
~26 psi but who's counting. The couplers like the ram inlet are 3" diameter, that's where I came up with that number. True the code issue with the AEV is from ram affect over-pressurizing the intake, so maybe the smaller intake on the Rugged Ridge would actually not suffer that problem. :CWL: The AEV is code free with a prefilter, which is one of the main reasons to run the snorkel in the first place, imo. Which doesn't appear to be an option either with the RR without stacking adapters and/or making an extension. At least not with the Sy-Klone.

Of course all of this is moot, cause they don't make one for the ecodiesel.

Exactly, 26 psi isn’t setting the world on fire. They aren’t race cars that’s for sure. Even a 2.5” intake tube would be just fine. A pre filter to me just sounds like a band aid. I’m not interested in purchasing more stuff just to make something work correctly. Hopefully AEV fixes their “ram air” issue and other companies come out with some better options.

See I think the Rugged Ridge looks cheap, and it's probably too narrow to flow enough air (3".) The fake vent at the bottom bothers me and the fact it sits in front of (and on!) the windshield. I came close to pulling the trigger on the gasser snorkel and plumbing it in a couple times, but just couldn't get over the looks and functionality.

There's no such thing as a pretty "snorkel" lol
I bought the Hauk because it looked pretty badass compared to the competition. That and it didn't run externally where a tree would rip off a plastic snorkel. It looks a little goofy with the full extension but it looks a lot better than the big plastic ones. At least I think so. It's too bad they went out of business because they made good products for people who are offroaders.

Uhg I've typed several paragraphs out a few times trying to explain the air flow and pressure differences between a turbo and an na, and how large of a difference in cross section 3" vs 4" is, and how adding a bunch of additional tubing is an increase in resistance in and of itself, and how making the turbo work harder makes more heat, and how a thin walled out-of-round intake tube probably isn't going to have a great time holding shape when it's sucking air through a reduced inlet at 550 cfm. (if you were to say try to stick to the Rugged Ridge design) But I just can't help but think I'm wasting my breath and I'm not an expert on this stuff, I've only done a couple boosted car builds.

Whatever, run a 3" snorkel that snakes through the cowl or across the warm engine bay, see how it goes. Let us know. It was just a hypothetical anyway. That's the only way to know if the sensors will be happy and the EGTs will be good. Shit if the Hauk is a 3" then we already know it'll work just fine with good smooth tubes.
🤷‍♂️
