Thinking out loud here (for shits & giggles)…..Jeep is running and you walk away with the remote. What happens if someone jumps in it (without remote) and tries to drive away? Does it not allow you to put it in drive?

this happened to my wife too. Our son started the jeep for her and had the key in his pocket and took it to school. She drove off to work (about 1.5 miles away) just fine just couldn't go anywhere after that. SO i guess the range is until you turn it off and can't start it again.
Jeep is running and you walk away with the remote. What happens if someone jumps in it (without remote) and tries to drive away? Does it not allow you to put it in drive?

That’s true….. Now that you mention it, I remember hearing about a friend of ours who was able to drive (a different vehicle) a certain distance.
Makes me want to try it - on purpose.
I’d be more curious of what my husbands BMW would do.

Correct. Like remote start. Shifter is locked.

If already in drive and key leaves vehicle, then you can continue to drive. For safety, they'll never disable a driving vehicle. But you do get a dash alert that the key has left the vehicle. And you won't be able to start again if you shut it off.
Assume it would also lock the shifter if it's running in drive with no key, and you shit to park.

Shifter does not lock if the vehicle is running and the key left the vehicle. and yo put it in park.
