Do I need spare tire

Have a Mojave
Replaced stock tires with Toyo OC III's 35's.
Apparently I only bought 4 not 5.
The spare is original 33.
The toyos are E rated, so assume unlikely to get a flat.
Do I need to get a 5th toyo ?
Assume I couldn't put the 33 spare on in a pinch if I got a flat

I had 35's on my Wrangler. Big Meaty Goodyear Wrangler MT/R Kevlar tires. They looked great and ran fine until I got a flat. luckily I did get the 5th wheel and I was back on my way in about 35 min. If I hadn't had that spare, who knows how long it would have taken me to get back on the road.

My advice is its fine for now but make getting that spare a priority.

call it overkill,, but on my gladiator, I even got the matching wheel for the spare.

My neighbor had something knock his valve stem and he lost air that way.


You can use a smaller spare in a pinch.
Only those with limited slip have a real concern.
But -
Those with limited slip differentials can still use a smaller spare for emergencies - put the smaller tire on the front and keep the rears the same.

One reason I like a matching spare is - if you get something run into the tire that's close to the edge of the tread, it won't be fixable (reputable shops will refuse) and then what..............
We had that happen on my wife's Grand Cherokee. Luckily, her spare was a match.

I'm heading to local Idaho Les S sat to get method 703 fitted. I'm going to get them to replace the spare with a new 35 toyo while in there.

Seems the prudent thing to do.

I asked the guys at Discount Tire if they had any takeoffs in a 35” tire that I could buy as a spare. The guy seriously went out and found a used matching ko2 and he gave it to me. Tire has 50% tread left. What an awesome business. Rare in today’s world.

Was my planned go to place, super helpful when I called but didn't have the item I had and won't for several months . Seem to have awesome service

Your rear locker is open, your front is not. Therefore you can damage the front. It'll also throw speed codes.

To make it work...always make sure the spare goes on the back, even if you to swap tires and then lower the PSI on the good tire to 15-18 to help match the 33 tire size...it only has to lower an inch.

Or just buy a cheap or used 35 and swap it in.

I have 5 matching wheels and tires and do a 5 tire rotation and wouldn't do it any other way.
I can go more miles before needing tires. (well covered already in other threads about spare tires)

Not really sure what the front axle is on the Mojave, actually...the std features says its a "conventional diff" so to be safe I'd keep the spare on the rear. If it is also an open diff then it wouldn't matter if the spare went on the front.

OK, just wondering and don't want people thinking gee, I have a xxxxxx so I can do this - and they put a much smaller spare on an axle with limited slip.
A "locker" won't be limited slip so that makes it easier.

Just make sure to lower the pressure on the opposite side to try and lower the tire an inch to make the axle think there's a 33 on it.
