I’m thinking about switching my Poison Spyder front bumper for a Motobilt or a jcr bumper that doesn’t include fog light provisions.

Does fog lights really serve any purpose? I like to keep all my switches functional but if I go without fogs, will it throw an error code?

I’ve been in fog so thick that low beams blind you. The only thing I could do to see any part of the road was to turn the headlights off and fog lights on.

I guess I’ll ask a question as an answer. Do you drive in fog? If the answer is “no” then go for it.

There is a thing called "Tule Fog" and you will get vertigo if you drive with your headlamps on in it.

Fog lights are not driving lights, you can have both - do you need either?

I like the ditch to ditch coverage from them, but that can be replicated.

I never really use my fogs either . Is it possible to tap a pillar bar light into the fog light wiring?

In 38 years of driving, I've been thankful that I had fog lamps exactly once.

IMHO, they are useless.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate your input. Seems like I will be revising my bumper. Sell the PS, and JW Speaker fog lights and try to come out even.

You will not throw a code - at least i didn't get one when i didn't have fogs after switching from a sport s bumper to a fogless overland bumper (i eventually got oracle fogs for the overland bumper and like them, but no code thrown without fogs for about a month)

you could always save the fog harness and use that circuit for rock lights, etc. just throwing ideas out there

Fog lights are 100% useful. When you need more light, you need more light as in driving lights, light bars etc for go fast conditions.

Fog lights provide “different” light that can only be provided by type and location of light.

I use mine ALL the time. Inclement weather conditions don’t always produce “fog”, but the lighting and increased visibility produced by proper fog lights (OEM, Rigid, Baja Designs etc) cannot be understated.

SAFETY is increased with fog lights in inclement weather driving conditions.

If you live in a place where fog or snow is common, you definitely do want them.

This is the KC Gravity in amber. Look at that beautiful flat, low, wide, deep and reflection free amber color.

I saw these on a friends rig, and was completely converted. As so many “fogs” are just driving lights. Bright, focused high and hyper white.

And you can see in the combo pic with the standard low beams, they are much lower aimed and wide to the sides.

Do you have LED headlights? I ran bumpers without fog light provisions on my last 2 JKs. One had halogens and I did miss the extra output. The other had LED headlights and I didn’t miss the fogs one bit.

Coming from the world of motorcycles, anything that makes it easier for people to see YOU (within the law) is a good thing.

They may not give you the vision, but I guarantee they have made it easier for people to locate you on the road.

But in the end, it's your ride, your decision.

I live in the mountains and at times it's basically cloud coverage you're driving through. I've added fog lights to every truck I've owned that didn't have them and can't fathom taking them off my Jeep. But I suppose closer to sea level, this kind of fog is rare to nonexistent?
