Winches are big heavy bitches that many retailers will just ship label slap the retail box they come in and not actually package it within another box properly. I am sure this not the first time 4WP has seen this.
That is exactly what happened. 4WP slapped a label on the retail box and sent it.

Haven't ordered anything from them in decades, but did have them do some work on my wife's 2017 JKU - needed to install a Blue Ox tow bar base plate. I didn't have time to do it myself so I brought the Jeep and the tow plate to the local 4WP store. The guy assigned to do the job pulled the Jeep in to the garage and took the box with all the parts out of the Jeep and set it down at the rear of the Jeep. He then started gathering up his tools and stuff and then got down under the back of the Jeep to start working. It was then that I told him that the base plate gets installed on the FRONT of the Jeep, not the back!

I've had good luck with them. Their parent company also owns a lot of the big names in the industry (4wd.com, smittybilt, pro comp, Rubicon express). My last order took a while, but so does everything these days. I always order at the local store in person though.

In no way am I defending 4WP, but that looks to me (been there done that) like the shipping company destroyed the first box. They have generic shipping boxes at every shipping/receiving center to use in this case. They grabbed the big parts, salvaged the shipping tag, reboxed and sent it on it's way.
Really? It looks to me like the purchasaer did not get what he ordered and paid for and then received no honest response to his complaints. The vendor is responsible for the product up till the time it is received exactly in the manner it was offered and sold and passing the buck is irresponsible. When we the consumer soft pedal vendors for crappy service and outright lies, then we are just sowing the seeds of dspotitism at our own doorstep. Raise hell at the store, especially in front of the store, and sue the crap out of them. There should be a disclaimer on this website to NOT use this company for anything, repeat anything. I have seen their name swcrawled in mud on here way too many times.

Actually, no. The problem was created by the shipper. 4WP is not the only vendor that has issues taking care of customer complaints. Quadratec has a history of it but people here defend them to hell and back, the problem is Quadratec's history is documented for anyone that wants to search.
The OP bitched about the condition of the package and the missing parts. THAT falls on the shipper no matter how you want to twist the logic. The lack of customer service from 4WP is just a kick in the nuts, but they didn't screw up the delivery. The OP said he is contesting it with his CC company, which throws it right back at 4WP if they want to recoup the monies for the winch.

Until these companies stop using Fedex, this will continue, Fedex simply doesn't care.

I have started to look elsewhere for products so that Fedex doesn't get to touch my purchases.

In case you've missed it elsewhere, I can't stand 4WP. If it is not IN my local store I buy from someone else. So, you are very wrong, I was not defending 4WP but telling the OP where the problem lays and what he had to do to rectify it.

I’ll never use them again, after a pretty small purchase took forever. And I’m surprised they even sell Warn winches, seems like they prefer Chinese stuff, not that all Chinese stuff is bad.

Been burnt three times by 4WP over the years. After the first, I reluctantly ordered online twice more because they were the only place claiming the items I needed were in stock.

Every time, the experience was horrible. Had an in stock order ’Being Processed’ for 7 weeks, and when I finally got a human on the phone was told it would go out today. Took another month before it shipped. The last order was ‘Shipped’ with no tracking info (which is fine) and a week later the status changed to ‘Being Processed’ and it stayed there for three weeks while I tried to get a human on the phone. I finally posted my experience on their Facebook page and my packaged miraculously showed up the next day.

I wasn't "bitching" in my thread. I was simply telling my story, as factual as possible, and hoping that there was a 4WP employee here. I actually did receive a PM with help. So the thread was a success.

This was UPS, not FedEx, and 4WP packaged the item poorly, by sending it in the retail box, versus an additional protective box.

I se your from East Coast OP. If you end up looking for an alternative to 4WP I will give a thumbs up for Quadratec here in Philadelphia area.

I worked for 4wp recently for almost a year. I tried my best from learning 2 different computer systems and a lack of getting products in. The store I worked in strived to take care of all customers (in store or online)as best we could. I’m no longer there… as you can tell. I’ll still buy from them but only in store and certain items.
Good luck op, I’m hoping you get your issue resolved soon.

4WP= apathy + ignorant arrogance. I will never use again, online or in person. Their company's culture sucks.
Fedex aint going to repack without a reason..useless extra work for them. 4WP Likely did not pack that correctly to begin. I'm not sure FedEx is responsible for the missing parts unless the implication is they stole them.

It has been my experience that of the problems described, 4WP is not the only vendor with employee's incompetence. This started decades ago with the "every one gets a trophy" just for showing up and managers chosen from the same stock. The idiot genes are passed on at a far higher rate than the intelligent ones.
