There are a lot of posts on different things like cold air intake, snorkels, etc.
Why would it improve mpg? All it does is move where the air enters in.

That sort of thing has no reason to increase MPG.

You are driving a brick - you can give yourself better mpg by the way you drive, the speed you drive, keeping excess weight out of the truck or off the truck, keeping tires properly inflated and more.

That is why I am staying with the stock tire size on my JTM. Let's face it, we don't buy these things for the mpg so trying to maintain half-way decent fuel consumption is challenge enough. Attempts to improve it may prove to be unsuccessful at best.

Snorkel = say 500$ rough guess … oh and it decreases aerodynamics so I’d say net decrease in mpg and your out 500ish bucks. So your down mpg and out cash up front…. But they look cool. And I want one but options are extremely limited for my diesel…

No really. I've had my Power Wagon in water over the hood. It depends on how hard core you are at 4 wheeling.

As for fuel mileage. I've had my snorkel on since 2010. And have never seen an increase in mileage. Most people who see the snorkel ask if that's my exhaust sticking up.

Nope, you don't need one unless you plan on doing some sort of high water creek or river crossing. Other than that, I don't see a reason for it. It actually would more than likely hurt your Mpgs because of how they sit on the jeep and the change in Aerodynamics. I'm not 100% sure on that statement but I do know throwing a light bar above your windshield will affect the Mpgs.

The only "practical" reason for a snorkel is to get air from higher up than the air intake would normally.

It's worth noting that some manufacturers specifically don't call these snorkels, because they're not meant for your vehicle to go underwater. Kind of a misnomer.

This. For practical purposes, its a desert air intake. Combined with a precleaner, it keeps dust and other particles from entering.
