I am content with just rolling the windows down on nice days to get the fresh air experience, but I do like having a vehicle that I could remove the top and/or doors if the desire would arise. Bestop Sunrider may also be in my future.

Yes. Not that the soft is bad, but I'd rather just have a hardtop.

No regrets getting the hard top only. Can always get the soft top as aftermarket and expect to have the sun topper before summer. Could have gone either way at order time, but went hard top to ensure the wiring was installed for the defroster, which I’m not sure you would get with the soft top only.
Just throwing this out there for informations sake, unlike the Wrangler, the gladiator comes with all of the wiring in place for the hard top of you order it with a soft top.

To each their own. I live in FL so the premium soft top offered easy open air experience year round and I really like it. I admit the lines are not as clean as the hard top but that was easy for me to get over.

While I have yet to take delivery of my JT....I did order it with Hard Top. Will be my first "wrangler" with a Hard Top. I do plan to get the Bestop Sunrider. But truth be told...I doubt I will ever take the back part off. And while its silly...I just did not like the way the JT soft top looks when its "down". If by chance aftermarket comes up with a better softop, I can always add it at a later date.

Hey just curious- does anyone have any regrets they got just a soft top and not the dual top option?

I kinda wish I had ordered the hard top at the time of purchase... three main reasons: 1) would be optimal in the winter 2) would extend the life of the soft top 3) THE AFTER MARKET PRICE IS RIDICULOUS!!!

I’m probably most frustrated with #3... currently no good after market options and a mopar hardtop is Almost 3k by the time you get everything you need.
I have another Jeep that I ordered dual tops on, ultimately selling the hard top....and I regret it.

The JT soft top just looks wrong...top-heavy when closed and like a wind sail when its open. While I generally pick function before form this one is just too far out there when you consider its cost. So I'll not regret spending a bunch of money on a top I hate and then wait and see what the aftermarket holds.

The JTs hard top is so light that it nearly doesn't matter that its a hard top except when you want to drop it while away from the house...I'm ok with that because I just pull the freedom [panels and toss them in the truck bed.

So i absolutely don't regret getting a hard top. Aftermarket hard tops are usually stupid expensive VS stock and its the other way around for soft tops usually. Plus the hard tops are quieter.

Totally subjective, but in my opinion I do not like how the Unlimited Wrangles or JT look with the top down/off and/or doors removed, I do like 2-door Wrangler looks in these configurations.

Glad I got the color matched hard top. I really like the look. I can see a Bestop Sunrider in my future - would like the option of just flipping the front open without having to store the freedom tops.

Does anyone have experience with taking the sunrider on and off? I was thinking freedom panels in the winter and sunrider the rest of the year.
I took mine off about 2 weeks ago.. 6 bolts.. and it's standing in my basement in the corner. Was super easy. ( I wanted to keep it inside to keep the gaskets in good shape. )

I would have ordered the dual top, but I ended up picking up an LE off the lot. I am like a few others on here with the Bestop Sunrider that is hoping they come up with a slick option for a soft top to close up the rear of the JT with just a sunrider. I too didn't care a whole bunch for how the premium soft top from the factory sits on the roof when open, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me...I think it is sweet looking to roll around safari style with the top up, back window out and doors off. Damn I love this truck, can't wait for spring again in Michigan

I'm running around in 20 degree weather here in OKC these past few days and have had no regrets that all I have is a soft top. I don't see weather as a reason to not get the soft top. But I have the premium version, and I have seat and steering wheel heating. And Jeep heaters have always been legendary for their high output. I rarely have anyone but me in the vehicle, so no kids in the back seat to complain it's cold. Really, the only reason I see to get a hard top is for security. I drove my JK for years in the winter with the soft top back when swapping tops was a 20 minute, two person job. I used the hard top in warmer months because that was mostly when I traveled and needed the security. Nowadays, I'm just extremely careful where I leave the Jeep, and find hotels where I can park the Jeep right outside my hotel room door. But, I can easily be carrying $20,000 worth of photography gear. Plus the loss of any shots I may have taken would be heart breaking--even more so than the loss of the gear.

The reason I didn't want a hard top is because I really missed the days driving my other Jeep with any top but the hard top--I do own a soft top and a safari top for it. And I didn't want yet another piece of gear to store in my garage, which is actually a very full workshop and storage for my Trans Am.

Bottom line is, however, if you think you want a hard top, order it from the factory. If you want the soft top, too, wait on buying it because someone will end up with dual-tops and sell it to you for half the factory price.

Much of the time I WISH it would get up to 20, or down to only 20. When you leave in the am and it's 5 degrees, well..........

Security - as a former security person - all I can say is that if someone WANTS in, they will GET in. The hard top "keeps honest people honest" as they say but simple tools can get someone in. Set the alarm, don't just use the lock button on the door (use the FOB, that arms the alarm in most Jeeps I've had - I expect or assume the JT is the same)

I hear ya - some of the nature shots I've seen and appreciated are once in a lifetime things - equipment you can buy, but some people wait hours, days, even a lifetime for some of their shots.

I bought the premium soft top, but had desired the hard top. Since I live in Florida, the soft top has been great as it is so easy to pull it back and have the open top. My biggest complaint is/was the $600 price for the soft top and the hard top option as $1100 (to the best of my memory). The $500 difference doesn't make any sense at all.

...this is why the 2-door JL is not offered with the dual top option.
Really? My 2-door JKR came with the dual tops. We usually swap it out in the summer, but there was one year that it didn't happen. My advice: find a way to get it on and off by yourself; either by way of a pulley system or beefcake it. When I ask my wife to help, it usually turns into a fight. :punch::LOL:

When I get the JT, it will be with the hardtop and Bestop Sunrider. Having the softop is nice, but on the Wrangler it drops right down instead of bunching up on top, which I don't like (I know I'm not alone here). I'll pull the whole thing off when the weather is nice; we usually only get a streak of a week or so at a time with sunshine and no rain mixed in, so the hardtop/Sunrider combination works for the rest of the time.

I’m never really sure how to answer negatively phrased questions, but I’ll try. I don’t not regret that I didn’t order the soft top with my JT. I figured there might be some cool aftermarket soft top options that I wouldn’t want to not get, at a lesser price than the factory soft top. I’m hoping Bestop doesn’t not offer the Trektop NX for the JT.

The 2-door JK did have the available dual top option, but the JL does not, maybe because the frame change and they cannot put it into the back with the hardtop on at the factory. The JLU does have the available dual top option.

Huh. I seem to recall both tops were installed when I got mine; I didn't realize the way the JL's folds down is different.

You'd think they'd offer the option and let you figure out how to get it home. That would allow someone to buy it cheaper than ordering it from the parts department lat-...oh wait, never mind.
