Door screws, keep them in?

Yooo all. New Gladiator owner here. Had a LJ for long enough, put enough work into, figured enough was enough. Came home with a '21 Willys.
My LJ as a P.O.S. so i didnt really care about the door screws being off.

Do any of you leave the screws off the pins on your doors for quick access? Obviously I would leaveve the interior screw in, but any possible damage leaving the outside pins exposed? Especially being in the rust belt?

You don't have to, but they will keep crud out of the threads.

I’ve got the smooth covers over mine to ease insertion, protect the threads and save the paint on the hinges. So no, the screws haven’t been back on since the first time the doors came off the jeep. They are safely tucked away in the storage block under the rear seat for when I trade in the JT.

Buy some door guide pins. Keeps the threads sealed and makes putting the doors back on much easier.

Is there a way to keep the third screw / door movement control arm locked in and away ? Would love to keep that not screwed and just use the cloth strap without screws

And put a small coating of silicone grease inside before installing.

Yup, I did that and love it. Just take the torx bolt out, and CAREFULLY push the door stay in with a gloved hand. It'll e really stiff, and make a loud bang when they go in, but they don't get in the way once they're in. I put the torx back in the body just to keep the threads clean.

I have no idea... The force it took to push would make me think that they are not going to be easy to pull back out if I ever wanted to reattach them.

It's possible, but not really easy to do. I've managed to do it carefully with zip-ties and the right leverage point after re-install. I wouldn't recommend pushing them in though if you intend to rettach them to the body anytime soon.

It's not bad. I leave them in all summer then use a bit of wire to wrap around the bolt and then wrap it around the anchor and open the door to pull it back out. Then just need to bolt it back on.
