Have you ever wondered noticed people with vanity plates are proud to show their plate identification online while most non vanity plate owners cover them up for online pics?

So, after a quick search and reading about the Driver's Privacy Protection Act, I think people are just being overly cautious about privacy online.

Afterall, as the author of the below article says... " EVERYONE ALREADY SEES YOUR LICENSE PLATE NUMBER EVERY TIME YOU DRIVE DOWN THE STREET! Yes, folks, that's right: every time you drive your vehicle on a public road, every human with eyes can see your license plate number. "

Discussed at length about a year ago. I worked IT for years (IT security) and my wife had access to certain legal information. I've friends still in the business (IHP, etc.)
This hide your plate business has no basis in fact. It's something that gets spread on the web and took on a life of its own.

Google street view among other systems show your plates all over the place.
What can anyone do with a plate number anyway? Nothing, not a thing.
I can video plates while driving through the Walmart parking lot - but there's nothing I can do with that info.

Anyway, there's a couple of other places here that was touched on and there's still those who believe they really are at risk somehow by letting their plate be seen.

Mostly because of folks on the Internet who do things for the lulz. Addresses are largely public too, but we don't post them on here. And Google street view blurs license plates. Also, because it takes like 8 seconds to blur the plate, so it's no big deal to do, just as a courtesy to someone who might not want theirs online. Same with faces. You see people's faces all day every day too, but a lot of folks don't want their mugs tagged up on social media.

They may blur plates (why, I dunno) but there's still more than enough info with today's systems to get plenty of info - and use it for what, exactly?
I normally don't hide plate info - why would I? Like I say - taking pics anywhere in public gets you plate info, even enough info to ID where the vehicles were - so?

Fair enough, I usually just operate out of an abundance of caution, unless given explicit permission. It's just not hard to blur the plate, so I usually do. I also don't tag people on Facebook though (or really even use Facebook, for that matter).

LOL - can't even tell you what tag means on fakebook. I'm there now and then, the AMC related pages, and one of my friend's music pages, but that's about it.
(and maybe someone will explain what "tag" on fakebook means)

I'm going to show millennial-ness, but I haven't been on Facebook for more than a minute or two since I was in college. This site, and other car related sites for my other vehicles are pretty much the only social media I do.

Don’t be such a Chad. ? I’m a millennial and I don’t have Twitter (well, a burner for specific situations), I have a insta, why I don’t know. I deleted Facebook years ago. I have a burner now named after y car where I just follow a Challenger and Gladiator page lol. Social media sucks.

This bugs me to no end! Glad there is some actual intelligent discussion about it instead of just saying "people's privacy."

Social mediocre......
instacrap - not sure why so many people let others seeking fortune and fame "influence" them (so tired of the word "influencers" - it's so often bad) (no instacrap for me)
tiktok - dunno where that name came from but it came from china -so......... anyway, that's just plain a big wasteland of challenges and danger. (no chinese tiktok for me)

You know, I thought about not even having my first name on here when I set up the profile. But then I thought...What the heck...I drive a bright yellow-orange Gladiator. There's no hiding.
