Do I need to worry about my hood latches that don't lock?

You will still need the latch part on the hood !
maybe I don't understand your statement. If referring to the side, top latches on the hood, you can leave the oem in place and use them , they are exactly the same as the one that came in most kits similar to the one I posted. With exception of the RR and a couple others, because they are a completely different design.

I'm talking about the part that mounts on the hood has a groove that the locking arm slides into. The other statement was to just drill into the latch and place a lock into it but you would need the cut out on the hood parts.

What are you worried about? Someone doing an engine swap?

What is the use case that Jeep stands behind such that my hood isn't locked? I've been looking into purchasing some aftermarket locking hood latches but it seems there isn't a whole lot available. Before you suggest that I haven't Googled it or searched, I have. It would be great to find something that looks nearly OEM without the manufacturer's name or logo on it. Is this even a real concern?

Yes, but you need to cut out a portion of your JT grill for it to work properly. The JL's have larger openings and don't require the modification. That's why I went with locking hood latches instead.
I did mine without cutting the grill and it works just fine.

Look at my post... you can actually see the locks in the pics, the material and design is exactly like the OEM latches. Mine use a barrel key vs a blade key. The ones with the blade key can be picked with just about anything.
Barrel locks are actually just as easy... can be picked with a Bic pen...

"Just a few simple tools to do the install. A file, side cutters and a.... rivet gun."

Wait. What?

I wouldn't necessarily say just as easy.... but any lock can be picked for sure. Just my preference. Honestly, anyone could give a really good yank on the latch and break it open. The whole idea is really just a deturant , unless you get the center hood, rivited in style, but they use keys also... so I'm sure someone can pick those too.

Are you able to fully use the lock cylinder protective cap/cover? I would imagine in a southern climate you don't need to worry about that?

True about the climate. but I used a cigar punch in the center of the rubber to expose the inner key circle before I installed it. Couldn't chop up the inner grill.

I hear JB Weld is a formidable defense against thieves.
