Paved road wet with rain
Yep you got it binding seems to be the case, I asked more people and they promptly said it was binding, heavy or not rain don't try 4H expecting AWD it won't work that way.
So yes I engaged in 4H to have a line AWD, which was wrong from me
Sorry I passed out after a full day, plus I forgot to check my personal email until now, my bad. Will pay better attention to the forum from now on.
??
Hahaha never saw that before thanks man.
Pavement, asphalt with rain. I was trying to replicate an AWD eff ct with 4H, which was wrong of me.

It seems what I did is called binding, all wheels trying to turn at same time in a flat surface, not supposed to use 4H in this situation, despite of weather not on regular paved roads

Yep. Great way to pop a u-joint or worse. But usually just freaks you out, binds everything up tight, makes it nearly impossible to push the transfer lever back to 2WD, and generally makes you feel stupid. Happens to us all at one time or another. Easy fix , though. Reverse in a S shape while pushing the lever to 2WD. It will unbind and you will be on your merry way.
Yeah I just stop let got of 4H to 2H on Neutral and was able to keep going, thanks for the explanation, I'll keep it mind jus the S-Shape I kind of get it but not sure why yet.

That sounds like binding in the u-joints.

There’s the 4WD "binding" and the U-Joint binding. The U-joint binding is a bump you can feel at each rotation of the wheel [especially with sharp turn]. It’s not present in the more recent 4H-Auto model that is using CV-joint instead of U-Joint. In this case you just have the 4WD "resistive binding" part of the binding… It’s something you have to experience to understand the subtle difference…

The binding comes from uneven arcs that was tire takes when you turn. The diffs have the ability to adapt. The transfer case doesn’t (full time and AWD excepted here). Backing up in an S shape while gently pushing the shift lever to 2WD will allow the wheels to turn through several different arcs and find the spot where everything neutralizes and unbinds, allowing the transfer case to unlock. Make sense?
