So I was researching bedliners and came across a thread here where MrPriest did a red liner in his white JT. My color of choice against my black JT has been blue and when I saw his post I was inspired to do the same instead of standard black.

Last night my 7yr old and I sanded the bed down with 80 grit. This morning we washed it, did a bit more sanding in spots we missed, cleaned it again, then taped off using Frog Tape, and finally a wipe with xylene before application of the Durabak. We did 2 coats, and then touch ups in between as well as a little at the end to ensure 100% coverage.

Overall I am extremely pleased with the results and very proud of myself.

Looks great! With mine being blue I really wanted by bed liner to be color matched to just match the original look of the truck, and to be a bit different. Line-x wanted a lot more, like $200 extra just for blue vs black. I chose to go with black and it’s fine but I sure do have a hard time finding things in the corners of my bed if there are ANY shadows…
Yours looks really nice. Mind if I ask, how much in materials?

Thank You!! Of course! So the actual Durabak 1 gallon can came with one 4 inch roller, I bought another 4, and also a 9 inch one too. The total with shipping was $170 ish. Then I bought the tape, sanding sponges, a 4 and 9 inch roller handle, a pan with 10 liners from Amazon for a total of about $30. In the end I had to use both 4 inch rollers, and never used the 9.

I sure wish you would’ve asked somebody about doing the tailgate. Those bolt on plates are there for a reason and they’re meant to be bolt on. You should’ve removed the plates and done them separately. Now the star bit holes in the bolts are full of whatever that material is and you’ve effectively encapsulated the two panels to the tailgate. Now you won’t have access to the clips for the tailgate handle or access for replacing the center mounted LED tail light, which is a known Item to fail.

But with careful work the material can be worked out if those bolt holes and a razor knife can be carefully cut down in at an angle to seperate that panel.

I’d smash that bit right in the hole after scoring around the head of the bolt trash the bolts and just replace them but running a blade around those panels would really be the only way to get them to come up. I’m thinking mine were heavy enough to where they’re not aluminum so extra care would have to be made to repaint them to make sure they don’t end up rusting out due to an errant nicking of the paint.

Pretty sure my factory bedliner is the same way. The only “plate“ they didn’t go right over was the big plastic one on the drivers side.

The blue looks awesome!

I´d bet that those panels never have to come off. I´ve never come across one of those that failed. He´ll probably never have to remove one of those panels for the life of the truck. We´ve got probably 30 Gladiators in one of our Jeep clubs and I have never heard of someone having to remove the panel.
