This code came up while on a trip a few weeks ago. I had it checked at the dealer in the town I was in and they said it was most likely due to a dirty MAP sensor. I removed it, cleaned it as well as the MAF sensor, no change. When I got home I took it to a dealer where they kept it for a day, claimed it was a glitch because the truck had zero problems and told me to come get it for a cool $351 (the truck is 13 months old with 48,000 on it and most every bit of the warranties are expired). Twenty miles later the light was back on. Now it's been at another dealer known for their great diesel techs. It's been in their shop for two days and they said they can not figure out WTH is going on. They said everything checks out perfect on the computer and that there is no overfueling going on. Has anyone run into this and if so, do you have a fix?

I was under the impression diesel had a 5 year 100k powertrain warranty?

Pg10- this should be under powertrain “intake”. Someone owes you some $$$

Found this on Google.

  • Debris that is allowed past the filter and into the fuel system can cause fuel injection issues that may set DTCs P2A00, P026D, P0300, P0172. Replacement of fuel injectors without a complete cleaning of the fuel system will only be a temporary fix until the debris gets into the new injectors.

First it should be under power train warranty? Get your refund my son had a def code come up he took it in with 42k miles they cleared it said no issue a week later it came back he took it back they reflashed his computer and its been good for 6 months? At no charge. They told us it was a glitch in the programming

UPDATE: The dealer said they have found an older service bulletin noting defective MAP sensors and that the symptoms found in my truck match what's described in the bulletin. The code is for overfueling but their testing shows that there is no overfueling present. The new one is ordered but won't arrive until early next week. We'll see

Good to hear, hope it works out.

The devil is in the details. The higher warranty only covers a few select items. Also, once they claim "nothing was wrong", the diagnosis time isn't covered.
If replacing the MAP sensor does indeed fix the issue then IMO the dealer needs to refund your earlier diagnostic fee as well.

From the Diesel Engine warranty booklet, section 2.4 under Parts Covered (Bold added for emphasis):

Cylinder block and all internal parts; cylinder head assemblies; core plugs; fuel injection pump and injectors; intake and exhaust manifolds; oil pan; oil pump; timing gear drive belts and/or chains and cover; turbocharger housing and internal parts; valve covers; water pump and housing; and seals and gaskets for listed components; glow plugs and all sensors.

Yet another update:
The suggested sensors did not solve the engine light problem. While waiting for the dealer to get it back in to further diagnose it stopped starting. The found that the PCM needed a full flash and update.

The good news is that the engine light never came back on. The bad news is that a few days later it failed to start again. The dealer says the PCM was wiped out again (nobody knows why or how) and it wouldn't start again until they flashed it again. They now have a new PCM on order and they will be covering all of this under warranty.

I won't know an arrival date until tomorrow.

Another Update: First the MAP sensor was replaced, then the NOX sensor, then the PCM, now the HPFP. After the HPFP the light stayed off for 300 miles instead of the usual 20 miles but yes, it's back on. It heads back to the dealer today. The replacement HPFP is the final solution and not the patch pump.

Code: P026D

Definition: FUEL INJECTION QUANTITY HIGHER THAN EXPECTED

Description: The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) uses a Fuel Mass Observer (FMO) Monitor to check the injection correction quantity for exceeding permissible limits and the fuel mass over a period of time. The FMO activation time monitor checks time to enter closed loop air/fuel ratio control diagnosis.

Cause:
  • AIR FILTER
  • AIR RESTRICTIONS
  • AIR LEAKS
  • RESTRICTED FUEL SUPPLY LINE
  • FUEL PUMP INLET STRAINER PLUGGED
  • FUEL PUMP MODULE
  • O2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT
  • O2 RETURN CIRCUIT
  • O2 SENSOR
  • ECT SENSOR
  • ENGINE MECHANICAL
  • FUEL FILTER/PRESSURE REGULATOR
  • POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)

One concern I have is you said earlier you cleaned the MAF sensor. According to the second TSB attached below, cleaning the MAF can damage it so it must be replaced instead if it's not operating within normal parameters.

This is interesting and concerning at the same time. I’ve seen this code pop up for me once, but it fixed itself. That was when the Jeep was brand new.

You haven't had the fuel pump recall done yet?

Thanks, the first dealer I took it to told me while on a trip told me the MAF needed to be cleaned but they didn't have time to do it. There was no change from before to after and it's been back to my hometown dealer for the actual repairs. Hopefully that is something they are checking on today.
