I was torn when I bought mine a couple of years ago, eventually went with the automatic for the first vehicle in 10 years. The auto is great and I don't regret it, but I did get to drive a manual rubi for a rental in CO, and came out of it knowing I'd be happy with either. When they actually say it'll be the last year for a manual in a gladiator I'll have a tough decision to make

I wanted the diesel more than I wanted the manual. I will say that the 8 speed in this thing is a fantastic auto transmission. I rarely if ever decide to use manual mode. It's very intuitive. That being said, if a 6spd manual were offered with the diesel, I absolutely would have gone with the manual. It's just more engaging and fun to drive, even if it has become the slower option (new autos shift lightning-quick). My O8 JKUR has a manual and I recently swapped a T5 into my 1966 Mustang.

+1. Manual with diesel would have been something I'd have been all over (if the price was right).

My JTR is the first vehicle I've ever owned that was Automatic. Personally I hate myself for buying one, but the towing difference between the Manual and Automatic was so great that I had to go with the larger of the two. For those who have the manual JT's... I'm jealous ?

Yeah, the lack of towing capability with the manual irks me.

If not for the manual, I would have gone with a bigger truck.

I tow whatever I want tow with mine. The factory, Honda Civic clutch and light flywheel(s) are the limiting factor. A Centerforce Dual friction clutch, heavier flywheel and 5.13 gears makes it manageable.

Honest reveal: I'm bigoted towards people who can't drive a MT. I legitimately think less of them.

?
I don’t think less of them. Just think more of us ?.

My 21 JT Mojave is an automatic and I have no complaints. That transmission is really something.

But I miss having a manual. My second vehicle is a car, an automatic, and its time is at hand. Yesterday I placed an order for a 23 JLR 2 door with the MT. Not a Gladiator but the next best thing. I have the towing package on the pickup for the rare occasions when I tow something, so I didn’t include that on the Wrangler. It’ll be a town runabout and see some trail and fire road use. Jeep Jeep.
