I bought my 2020 Overland used with 114,000 miles from a dealer. But it looks and runs like it is new. I ran a check and found no reported issues, no wrecks, recalls, etc. BUT in the back of the owner's manual, the DPO lised each oil change with date and mileage. On 11-2-22, it says '"Rebuild" and 68.5k miles. I've tried a number of ways to find out what that actually means but have found nothing.

Is there a way to run the vin and find out what was done?

I don't have any of the 'issues' that others report and am at 124,300 trouble free miles now. That suggests total engine rebuild or replace.

Only know of 2 options:
1. Get a CarFax report - might show that repair work and by whom.
2. Go to the dealer you purchased from - ask about warranty repair and repair history on that VIN.. Might not provide in print so Ask specifically about engine rebuild; show them the note in the owners manual from the original owner.

Did both of these, CarFax shows no incidents that would point to rebuild. The dealer checked records and found nothing.

Great that either way it runs good rebuilt or not if they rebuilt it and it is not obvious they were more likely taking the time to do a thorough job. If the engine has been out or apart you can usually see evidence such as marks on the fasteners engine mounts, exhaust etc or signs on other areas created during disassembly and reassembly.

Do they consider the cam shaft replacement thing a rebuild? Could it screw enough stuff up to warrant a rebuild? Based on the number of people that have had that issue that’s where I’d put my money.

Do you have specific “rebuild” shops in your location? If dealership sees no report, they could have done stuff themselves or had it done at a shop ?? Could phone around and ask.

No, the Jeep was owned and driven by the original owner across the state. I tried calling around but only found one shop that did oil changes and tire rotations. Maybe it was just the cams. I don't see any 'obvious' signs of work but it was 60k miles ago....

Well, I'm very happy with what I've got, just curious about that comment in the book. With 124k plus and no issues, I'm good.
