Exhaust filter nearing full

ok so I just got into the Jeep and there isn’t any message on the dash. Wife said a message came on that the regen started but she was just driving in the city I know she wasn’t driving with consistent high RPMs (red lights, traffic etc). so I’m going to drive it for a while and see what it tells me

Also I forgot she took the Jeep to work Friday where she was highway driving for ~40 min so I guess it didn’t regen then because it was under the 80% filter full mark?

I had a bluetooth ODBII device (BlueDriver) plugged in and was monitoring DPF % to regen. It was at 78% then 80% and straight to 100%. I never saw a message on the dash. I was city driving and never got up to highway speeds. It stayed at 100% for awhile and went back down to 8%. At that time I noticed the engine rpms dropped back to idle speed (I was stopped in traffic at that point).

Ok so you never had to get on the highway? Maybe wifey got the cycle complete doing the same thing then.
I just took it out for a short highway drive and no messages popped up so I guess it took care of itself

I really don’t like the whole ‘don’t call us, we’ll call you’ mentality from Jeep by not giving any information on when it’s happening, how full the DPF is, when did it complete the last etc. Will be pissed if it ever goes into limp mode because it has a full DPF and I have to go to dealer.

I think I’m going to get one of those Bluetooth obdii devices like have been suggested here

I agree. If it is so important they should give a way to monitor it on the dash screens.

I’m at 1,500 miles and never seen the regen message. It is 20 minutes all highway 75mph speed limit to my kids school and a few away basketball games that were 45min to 1.5hrs, again, all 75mph speed limits.

I probably regen’d and didn’t even notice.

That is one thing that I like about the F series (at least the F-450 and F-550 that I drive occasionally). Just like we can see the DEF level, on the F series you can see how full the DPF is, and if you want, you can tell it to regenerate while parked. It ask if you are parked in a safe location, it does raise the throttle level up a lot, and it goes through a regen in ~15 minutes, but you can stop it anytime.

Wow. I really expected more info as well. I have almost 5,000 miles and have never noticed a regen. No notification, nothing. Once I came home after pulling the camper and it smelled hot and a bit strange while I was unhitching but no notification. Totally agree if it’s so critical that it goes to ‘limp mode’ then it should have gage and notification. ?

Also, this is my first modern diesel. The 12v Cummins did not need such things.

What PID are you guys using to determine how full the DPF is? I had "normalized trigger for dpf" as one of my gauges, but it consistently shows at 100% now and it shouldnt. I have had it on long drives on the highway several times and it never changes. And the dpf temp was over 650 for a good portion of the drive.

Btw, initially it was showing like 40% I also don't have any warning lights or anything.

I'm using OBDLink MX+ with Torque Pro app. Made a custom PID that shows DPF percentage. Just drove home from work and it was showing 79% then jumped to 100% I also monitor EGT3 temperature. When it reached 100% the EGT3 temp started climbing up to and past 1000 degrees. When I saw this I decided to take the long way home to keep driving at highway speeds. Sure enough after 10-15 minutes of driving the DPF % went to 8% and the EGT3 temp starting dropping.
Regen complete.

I wonder if it's possible to get a cheap tablet/box that can run TorquePro (or another app) and feed the video into the stock 8.4in radio... It seems like all I would need is a composite cable to get the feed from the device to the head unit?

Not sure about feeding it into the 8.4 head unit. I've never explored that. Would be great if it's possible.

I use OBD Fusion and there is a stock PID for DPF%.

I just went on my first road trip with my diesel and it stayed in the 20% range the entire 600 miles.

Did an active regen the day before the trip, was hoping I could stay under 80% to see if it would passively regen all the way down.
