So thinking of cutting the middle muffler and back silencer and straight pipe from there. Anyone else done this yet? Drawbacks?

Drawback: If it turns out to sound like absolute crap, drone on the highway, and be too loud, you’ve ruined your stock exhaust

If you don’t like an aftermarket exhaust system, you can at least put the stock one back on.

Yeah my plan would be to keep the factory in case it needs to go back on.

gotcha... I don’t know why I assumed you would be welding the straight pipe in place
Yeah I think I would leave it off and try it first and then straight pipe it if I liked it. It’s really hard to find anyone with the eco-diesel on the JL that did something with the exhaust or even a ram 1500 eco-diesel.

The large muffler is downstream of the butterfly valve in the exhaust pipe, right? I think you'll notice a slight bit more noise but nothing major and you won't see any performance gain. That's because there's a DPF, SCR, and flow control valve in line before you ever make it to the muffler. These things are choked really bad. Just taking off the muffler doesn't change much of anything.

Somebody on the Wrangler forum cut their diesel resonator off, said it made zero difference. That’s all I got

This video is why it's not a good idea, sounds like a Honda Civic, totally pointless unless you want to sound like that. That's about the sound you can expect out of any of them.

Take off the "tailpipe" section and run it. That will give you a free example of what to expect. If you decide mod yours let us know how it works. ;)
