Finally saying goodbye to my coolant consuming engine after 39k kms had guzzled over 40+ ounces of coolant in that time period. FCA didn’t want to replace the engine so my insurance company agreed too.

Prior to this, I just had my 8 speed transmission replaced, again, my insurance company approved my vandalism claim of glycol contamination that took out my tranny. Very soon after that transmission replacement…300 kms, I started hearing a whine noise in 1st and 2nd gear under load. After putting on 6000 kms, whine remained.

Dropped off the truck this morning for the engine replacement and transmission tech confirmed planetary gear failure and order went in for a transmission replacement. New one arrives tomorrow! Not in MONTHS, I’m not on a waiting list forever.

I’m just shy of 40k kms. That’s 2 engines, 2 power steering pumps, 3 transmissions.

(I still don’t have the leaky right rear axel seal ?)

Did they actually flush the fluid cooling lines out before replacement? That is a awful lot repetitive things to happening to the same vehicle.

Did you mention it was also a lease vehicle?

The first tranny just came apart from the glycol contamination and I suspect it plugged the screen to the pump and starved the internals of oil and of course glycol and clutch packs don’t do well and let’s not forget FCA blamed the AMSOIL I put in there.

This second one, the whine appears to be the gears. Could only be heard under load, medium to heavy acceleration from stop, through 1st and 2nd gear only. If I accelerated nice and slow like some do on sundays, you wouldn’t hear anything. At least I can say they’re looking at Mopar 8/9 Speed not lubing enough I guess. Not my concern.

When the transmission was replaced, they also changed out the cooler and hoses and yes, they know it’s a lease

Why would a lease or not matter? Someone doesn’t understand leases.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. I thought mine had a lot of problems.

Your comment is correct, a lease does not matter where repairs are needed, warranty is expected or given and the one required to make the payments has to care for it “or make repairs at the end of the term” if stuff is broken or not running well.

In Canada, concerning owning/leasing a new Chrysler product from the dealership, the customer has no consumer protection (CAMVAP).
https://www.camvap.ca/participating-manufacturers/~english

Chrysler FIAT “opted out of the federal program” that protects the consumer from disputes they have with the manufacturer.

In Alberta, we have a provincial arbitration group called AMVIC that dealerships must be accountable too except when it comes to “warranty issues” or “manufacturer defects” so the consumer here is SOL if they are locked into a loan or lease and fall into these issues. We also have NO lemon law.

Then what is a Canadian Chrysler consumer to do? They can sue. …and that takes a lot of time and money. In my case, the first transmission malfunction cost me $1500 cad for a legal demand letter (that was ignored after the 4 month time line to reply was stated) and was told court would be two years down the road…and I’d still have to make the lease payments if I wanted to keep my good credit rating. The court could order an arbitrator…but that is a long time to wait.

I read through the fine print of my lease contract and found a huge hole in it. There was nothing in it that dealt with “lemons” that come defective from the manufacturer.

You’re just responsible to fix everything to working order when the lease is up. I asked lease management to step in to assist with the flaw in the contract and/or with the dealership and they just told me “we only deal with these problems at the end”.

So, I’m on my 3rd transmission and 2nd engine. I can only thank my insurance company for cutting the cheque (minus my $1000 deductible and $600 over 3 years) and my service manager for taking quick action to pre-ordering the engine (one month wait) while all the office stuff and administration work was doing their thing. He has a way of finding the components I’ve needed. I can only hope these replaced items will be problem free, made and installed correctly.

Since I originally brought up the lease question, I will answer this. By me asking, I was not inferring whether it mattered or not. Just I was thinking he is going through a lot of hassle for something he would eventually be relinquishing with no recoup of lost value of use while it has been down.

The dealership’s never had a problem with me trading it in if that was something I wanted to do but when they quoted the truck’s value, they took off the cost to replace the transmission. I was being made to pay for the repairs.

My desire is to just have this vehicle work properly and last a long time. Holding my breath…

So, today is the first morning with the loaner vehicle. 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 5300 kms. Vehicle is cold, I start it, idle for about a min while I fumble around to get comfortable and set the radio….put it in drive to creep out of my garage and it starts jerking and bucking like the first transmission did! My second one didn’t do this. There’s an issue with these.

Interesting. I've been reading a bit on the Ram forums about some guys having bucking problems too. One guy had a TSB flash that fixed it and another got under the truck and discovered it was overfilled. He found out by opening up the fill plug and fluid gushed out. Unfortunately there isn't a good ole fashioned dip stick on these. His drove fine once it drained down to the fill plug level.

People Work?
Wow!
I was just the other day thinking about your thirsty truck and wondering if you were making any progress.
I think I'd had that much trouble I'd be looking to sell or trade as soon as that thing's back together.
Insane.
