Equipment and tractors still get the annual once over.
That's another point in such discussions - if people don't drive enough to get miles on the oil and so on - don't go over a year. Do at least annually.

Yes I have a vunch to get rid of even currently . Advanced here I come 😂 wished there was some other place where I could get rid of more than 5 gallins at a time .
Funny you say Advance. Walmart is a pain because you have to see the cashier to fill out a form. O'Reilly lets you do 2 gallons. Auto zone was the same. Advance was my last stop, because they took 7.5 gallons. Moving to a bigger town has already made it easier to dump oil. I didn't have many options in south Georgia. It took me three days with 7 autoparts stores to get rid of it all. Advance is so close, I think I will never have more than 10 gallons at a time to dump.

Advanced told me they let guys who change oil in diesels dump 3-5 gallons so why not allow me to dump 5 . They was cool.

My old friend did the same. His problem was that every now and then, he would open up a bucket to find it empty and a hole in the side from where it had cracked. The EPA would have loved to have a chat with him.

My friend has been gone two year now. I cleaned up his shop and the area around it in the summer of 2023. This year I had to cut the grass where this oil leaked out. Mother nature has done a great job clean in up. I wouldn't eat the peanuts that were growing out of that soil. I'm sure a soil sample would flag something.

Bought my first Jeep in July. When I bought it the guy said oil change every 3,000 miles. Today, the service guy said every 5,000. I know someone on this board knows the answer. How often?
The answer is the sales guy said 3,000 miles and the the service guy said 5,000 miles. The person at the front desk may have another number. The Jeep computer goes through its calculations and comes up with its own number. Which number do you like?

Pick your poison.

One is really warm and fuzzy, the other is still more than enough and no one can lose sleep over it, and the last is going to be based on hard, proven science, oil analysis, with an engineered-in buffer because everyone knows no one is going to run into the dealership screaming they must be taken care of that very hour because the OLM went off - I'd bet the buffer is at least 2,000 miles after that thing goes off.
People forget, things come up, so that warning is going to not be your "final notice" like all of the car warranty envelopes you get have printed on them.

Got a friend that trades in every 2-3 years. He never opens the hood. If he gets a light or warning, in it goes. Most likely comes back with a new one. Another one of our club members was always telling him to let him know when he is about to trade one in. I suggested to him that may not be a good idea.

So what I do is at 50% I change the filter then at 10% which usually has me about 5000-5500 i change the oil and filter. My filters are clean as a whistle other than a slight discoloration from the oil.
This is the first time I've heard of changing the oil filter more often than the oil.

Let me know if you put any of your vehicles up for sale. Probably better than new.

We used to hear it recommended to change the oil but the filter every-other time.
It was really a thing, and some who use the Mobil 1 filter will sometimes change the oil every 5,000-7,500 for example and the filter every other time. the filter is rated for 15,000 miles.

It's the oil that "wears" (well, mostly the additives) - but the filters can handle a whole lot more than what gets into them. That's why some filter makers are guaranteeing them over 10K miles.

Some Honda manuals say filter every-other change.

It's a hot topic, almost like what's the best spark plug, but it used to be a real thing and apparently, it still is with many, even some car makers.

Things on either side -

Filters are cheap, so why not?

You can use a 15K filter and change the oil every 5K and the filter every 10K and be WAY WAY ahead of the game.

My Mobil 1 EP filter is rated for 20K mi, but I always follow the recommended oil & oil filter service intervals and never exceed 10K mi for either the oil or the filter. FRAM XG11665 is also a solid choice.

OK, I run those on my Javelin - so either I misread the box or - they've changed it recently. I have a couple on the shelf, will look at them. I talked to a guy who works where they are made - great filters for the size. Nice thing is the capacity for dirt but the tiny size means they clear the 360 alternator connections with ease.

Oil is 78.00 and the filter 10.00 figured clean is clean and cheap is cheap so I have changed filters 56 times and oil 28 times and I got 140,500 miles .
