I have been looking at the 4.5” EVO to put on my wife’s JT. We want to run 40’s on It and have useable flex when we go off-roading. I have been looking at Rock Krawler and Rock Jock as well. For those in the know, who makes a good lift to run 40’s with good flex?

Most here will say if you plan to offroad running 40s will get pretty expensive. You can do it but the chance of breaking an axel is pretty high. The normal suggestion is to run Dana 60s which is a major investment. Other option is to keep the dana 44s but replace the axel shafts which is a little cheaper but you still dont have the strength of the stronger differential. Even if you dont offroad with 40s you will need to regear with either 5.13 or 5.38. Ball joints are also a common wear issue. If going with any lift over 4" you need to have the front driveshaft replaced for full flex and the drop bracket for the rear. If not you will hit the front cross member and/or exhaust.

I have been planning to go 40s as well with either the skyjacker 4.5 or the RC 6 lifts. However I do not plan on offroading. I'm more of a show than go guy. Yeah it's a jeep I know....

I'm no expert. Dont even have my JT yet but have been doing the research. There is a bunch if people here with 40s. I'm sure they will chime in.

I know it is expensive, this Jeep is not cheap to begin with. I am not sure why they would suggest D60’s, I am not asking info on that. I am asking info on lift kits. The terrain I run does not dictate D60 knee jerk answer everyone gives. Besides, If I break I buy..no one else. This Jeep is a weekend toy, not a daily driver.

Just what attitude would that be? Did what I say about D60’s offend?

Running 40's on my rig with the 6.5" Stage 4 Evo Enforcer Lift. You'd be fine with a 4.5 but the flex will be much better with a bigger lift. Also it's nice to get the ass end as high as possible for departure angle.

I ran 40's on my JL with the evo longarm with coilovers with about 4.5" of lift and it worked well but the JL will have much better breakover and departure at that height.

I'd also add Dana 60's would be awesome but too much cash. I've personally wheeled hard trails with 40's on stock axles, even Pritchett Canyon. Take it easy on the pedal and go with a lighter tire, stay away from Nitto's those heavy beast will wreck your stock axles.

What model JT do you have? 3.5" of lift will work fine if you have the high clearance fenders that come on the Rubicon or Mojave, if you are willing to do the front fender chop bracket. The Metalcloak 3.5" is a good option, however any complete lift kit with adjustable control arms and trackbars would be fine as long as you install the correct length shocks.

I appreciate the response and info.
Any of the lifts you suggested will work. There are quite a few members running the EVO lift with 37 or 38’s.
But like the other member warned is your going to want to beef up the stock axles. Truss them, axle shafts, ball joints etc. Hydraulic steering wouldn’t be a bad idea.

My suggestion is look at the build section to get an idea of what people are running on their rigs.
