Is it possible to install a winch on my Rubi with a factory steel bumper and a Blue Ox Baseplate installed? Skid plate?

I asked this question about a Roadmaster base plate, to etrailer.com. this is the response I got.

"Good afternoon Kent,

Somebody from the engineering department at Roadmaster just contacted me, and has told me that the winch WILL indeed prevent the installation of the base plates, as the base plates will indeed need to utilize some of the space the winch occupies. This contradicts what I was told earlier, so I wanted to let you know as soon as possible. Unfortunately none of our base plate manufacturers offer a solution that will work with the winch in place.

I apologize for the confusion.

So it looks like I will have to go with an aftermarket bumper with tabs welded on.

I believe I could make it work by cutting and welding the Mopar winch Mount. Your thoughts?

Yes, I think it is possible, but it is beyond what I am willing to do. This is about safety. Towing a large vehicle down the road with something I have welded and modified this much would not give me confidence.

Check out LOD, relatively light, frame tie in brackets, holds winch no prob and has blue ox and roadmaster adapters. FOr the cost of the base plate, its a few hundred extra to get the bumper to do it 100% safe. Well worth it IMO

This is what I was looking for! However, it costs $1104 with all the addons. WOW!

I tried really hard on this forum to get enough information to make an informed decision about which system to purchase without much interest. I decided on Blue Ox due to my previous experience with them. If I had all that information now I may have done things differently (I.E. different bumper altogether). I opted for the Demco Stay N Play braking system, I have not installed yet. I am still fighting to get the best solution for wiring.

Theres a lot of good rv forums around there. irv2.com is a great one

I use the patriot break system so wiring was super easy. I went with the hopkins solution which was really easy to work with. I see youre in FL. If youre in south FL I got a great shop for you.

I use the RVI Brake system. No wiring, except for the breakaway switch.

Not 100% familiar with that system but I’m pretty sure you do. I’d bet you have a Charge line to your cars battery and emergency disconnect wire that goes to the box. It’s not major stuff. But still has to be ran

Yes sir. The charge line just goes from the 6 plug to the battery. Keeps the battery from getting drained by the break module and correct then emergency disconnect. I believe all the lunch box types work the same

I have nothing charging the battery. I just make sure I start the jeep every 6 hours or so. The breakaway switch is plugged into the side of the box.

The part I would cut and weld would be the winch Mount.

oooooh. Yeah you can definitely do that. I have no idea how much power these things pull. Since its cheap and easy I've just always added a charge line. Regardless, both ways have minimal wiring. Im reaching out to the OP via PM......looksl ike hes near me.
