This is a state that doesn't require motorcycle helmets and they are the only one picky about doors?

I drive in PA all the time without doors. But I also live in and am registered in New Jersey, and I'm a bit of a dick and would really love to get in front of a judge and cite the precedent established in https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bibb_v._Navajo_Freight_Lines,_Inc. just to see what happens.

Doesn't that trash state get mad about how far your tires stick out from the fenders as well?

They've been trying to get this passed for years. Both Wolf and Fedderman were Jeep owners and the bill still didn't get passed when they were in office, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

This isn't anything new and most cops just don't care.
What you need to avoid is university police who deal with college students all the time.
Other than them, most don't want to deal with the paper work.

Also
Half doors and tube doors satisfy the requirement, so it's really no big deal.

Cops in SW PA can be Aholes, there are areas that have cops that are known to write tickets. Half doors and tube doors are a grey area and open to a cops interpretation.

So you can drive down the highway at 70 mph on a motorcycle with no helmet but can’t cruise around in a jeep without doors off with your seatbelt on . Remember this is the state that elected fetterman and a transvestite into office ?

I would have to assume if they are factory half doors then there is no gray area since the vehicle was literally built that way.

I would assume it's not legal to drive without doors in most states. I know in Utah it's not. I suppose if there were such thing as DOT approved tube doors they would be okay. For the most part you're probably fine as long as you have mirrors and don't have unrestrained kids or something...

It's kind of one of those weird things where only Jeeps can get away with going doorless. If you tried it in your Ford Taurus you'd probably get pulled over every block. Kind of like Harleys and straight pipes.

If it came from the factory with half doors then according to the way the law is written it's OK. The problem is that every cop has their own interpretation of the law and you trying to prove them wrong won't get you too far.

This is how the law is written.

Doors – A vehicle specified under this subchapter shall be equipped with doors of a style and type used as original equipment. The doors shall open and close securely unless the vehicle has been manufactured or modified to the extent that there is no roof or side.

Title 67 Section 175.77(f)

My attorney/magistrate (wife) says that the law states “unless the vehicle has been manufactured or modified to the extent that there is no roof or side.” If you “modify” your Jeep by removing the roof (freedom or soft top) you can drive without the doors. If you have the roof and no doors on your guilty.
Hmmm, what if you only have the 2 front panels off?

You answered your own question, you only have part of the roof off in your modification and don’t meet the law.

It’s one of those, if we don’t like you it’s a reason to hassle you laws. Most times the weather isn’t no doors friendly, but I’ve seen xjs and Toyotas without doors up there.
I think you’d have to be a pariah to be the target of attention by the cops in general.
like driving around with illegal exhausts.
