Front axle is longer than the back

Hello! This is my first Jeep and I've just realized that the Front axle is longer than the Back! Is this normal for Gladiators? Sure hope so, otherwise I'm in big trouble! Thanks in advance for your response!

Would you mind explaining what you see that you arrived at that conclusion? If it's the sidewalls of the tires, they should be aligned front to rear. If you mean the axle shafts, yes, there is one longer and one shorter up front since the front diff housing ("pumpkin") is off-center, and the rear is centered. Or are you seeing something more obscure?

Axle width is the distance from hub flange to hub flange (left to right).

Propeller shaft length is from flange face to flange face or flange face to yoke center or yoke center to yoke center (front to back)

Individual axle shafts are measured from face of shaft to rear of hub flange and depth of flange face. Rear axle shafts should be identical as gear carrier is centered. Front axle shafts have left and right due to gear carrier being offset due to drive train.

What exactly are you measuring and why? Please explain the situation a little better.

Ok...sorry I don't know the technical terms. I'm no mechanic. So let's try this again and I'll attach a photo. All the tires are the same size direct from the factory. If you look at the Jeep straight on from the front, on your knees, you can see that the front tires are not even with the back ones. The tires do not line up in front of each other. The photo was taken from about 30 feet away but I've magnified it so you can see what I'm talking about. The back left is shadowed but the right side is visible.

That's because of perspective. Same reason why, if you stand down railroad tracks, they get skinnier at the back.

There's only 2 axle types on these. The Dana 44 and a slightly wider Dana 44. Unless the factory somehow messed yours up and gave you one standard and one wide they're the same.

Now take the same shot from the back and you'll see the same phenomenon. Perspective matters

Thank you for having basic knowledge. The difference between "narrow" and "wide" axles is only 1.5" anyway

Yes, parallax of vision. Go out in a big parking lot and see what the stall lines do.

Sport, Sport S and Overland come with a standard track Dana 44. Max Tow and Rubicon come with the wide track Dana 44.

It would be an amazing moment of wtf if your truck came with a wide track front axle but is not max tow equipped.
